google has a direct pipeline to 23 And Me's data.

Best case? Endless spam for drugs and treatments for anything for which your data shows the slightest predisposition.

Worst case? should you be a perfect tissue match for any of our "betters" who needs a heart transplant...

Even worse worst case? The government has the data for their own purposes.

Would you trust sending you DNA sample to the wife of the founder of Google, whose sole mission is to make as much information available as possible?

Facebook and the “free” email companies make their cash selling you- data about you. She wants to collect millions of genetic analyses, what a humanitarian!

Imagine what that data is worth to health insurance companies, life insurance companies, the supplement market, government, foreign government, political campaigns (for their opposition research), and agribiz!

I’ve got to go read their privacy policy. Wonder if it says they might change it at any time.

I bet they’ll end up requiring them to join SinglePayerObamaCare.

You up for $10 bet? Loser donates to FR. Bet expires 1/20/17.

Pay them $99 to register your DNA with CODIS?

Talk about a totalitarian wet dream!

It will probably be a requirement to visit your doctor for your yearly.

They already take all newborn’s DNA in the hospital. Ostensibly to check for inborn errors of metabolism and whatnot. However, they never destroy the samples. They’re kept indefinitely, ‘just in case’ they need a new sample. Because they’ll never be able to get another one from the baby. Or something.

Had my DNA tested six years ago via Family Tree DNA (both Y chromosome and autosomal) and have never been contacted by anyone other than other FTDNA clients.
I recently discovered a second cousin (92 y/o) who led me to the reason for the odd middle names of my grandfather and his brother.

Good idea. Heavens to Betsy, I don’t have enough personal information floating around to cause me trouble, yet. Where do I sign up?

This can be a lifesaver for the aging population. The efficacy of most of the drugs we will all be taking is controlled by our genes. Some of us are fast metabolizers of drugs, some slow. The bottom line is that standard doses of powerful drugs can deliver a sub-optimal or lethal dose. Good to know where you stand in advance.

Your friendly pharmacist.

When genealogical DNA testing came out years ago, I saw it as writing on the wall. No way would I ever submit voluntarily.

All of that is what I was thinking last night when one of their commercials flashed across my TV screen.

You pay someone $99 bucks for what should private info and then there no telling how many people have access to it.

The company needs an ongoing revenue stream and selling your info is the only way they can possibly grow.

I was thinking the same thing the other day, when I heard their commercial on the radio. Dangerous, indeed. I was suspect as to who the owners/founders were...now we know....Google CEO wife.

So, now Wife of Google can collect this very private data, from sucking folks in with their hip ads, and -- Voila! -- 0Care knows everything about your genetic makeup.

I was the same way about making purchases on-line for many, many years.
