Nov 6 (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp is looking for thousands of good men - and women. The world's biggest coffee chain said on Wednesday it would commit to hiring at least 10,000 veterans and spouses of active military in five years. It also said five new and existing U.S. Starbucks cafes on or near military bases will share a portion of each sale with non-profit organizations that help veterans re-enter the workforce. Many U.S. companies have committed to hiring thousands of military veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seattle-based Starbucks said it will have specialized recruiters to match the unique skills of veterans and their spouses with company jobs. "This demographic represents one of the most underutilized talent pools in our country," said former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, now a Starbucks director.

Isn’t Starbucks still a “No Gun Zone”?
From machine-gunner to barista. Now that’s some transition.
Only the gay ones though.
This veteran will never work for a leftist company like Starbucks.
Yes! All the gay, anti gun Vets!
Well, wouldn’t that be convenient? Ten thousand of our vets in one nice, neat, leftist database.
Tax evaders! The American jobs act will reward starsucks with permanent tax credits for hiring. I am a vet and I won’t even drink a starburnt coffee. Especially after their flip- flop on the 2A. This is one vet you won’t have working for you.
Also, military dependants come with health care. Veterans can use the VA.
Less cost per employee for Starbucks.
Starbucks is desperate to keep selling that over priced stuff the call coffee and are trying to get the American people to support them by hiring the real protecters of America. I say let them go broke.
I’m sure it won’t be hard to find that many Democrat-voting veterans.
Sorry Starbucks. I don’t know any homo, anti-gun, commie-loving, anti-American veterans, except John Kerry. Please take your coffee and do something actually useful with it.
There are more than likely full of crap. I am an active duty O-5 in the Navy with a Master’s degree (and a Naval Academy undergraduate degree) nearing retirement and I cannot get hired. I have applied to the airlines, headhunters, and companies all over the country and nothing has been heard back. I even applied to Walamart under their “100,000” vets to employees program and they called me back and wanted to hire me as a cashier. What vet is going to want to work as a min wage worker? This is just a media ploy like Walmart’s program.
Unfortunately I know way to many.
Never been in a Starbucks, probably never will. Their coffee is very expensive isn’t it?
I’ll stick with my Folgers, thank you.
The CEO (I think his last name is Schultz) has been outspoken in his opposition to Obamacare, and is disillusioned with Obama himself. He is transitioning to a more centrist viewpoint, and we should encourage that. This is another step in Starbuck’s move away from the left. I for one am glad to see it.

Good. Starbucks is also probably sick of hiring lazy butt employees who are dishonest and don’t do decent work. Was in a Starbucks the other day being run by some of the most sullen incompetent boobs I’ve ever seen .... forget that.
Commander, I fully sympathize. Vets with warfighting skills are regarded with a cold eye by business types who mostly never served.
Found this out myself right after Vietnam. Thank G-d, I eventually got back in & served until age 62.
Anyway, not too sure that OIF/OEF combat vets will fit in with the metrosexual culture of baristas & their typical customers.
FWIW a cup of joe from my own coffeemaker is cheap, bracing, & from what I’ve heard much better tasting than the expensive burned s*** they peddle at Starbucks.
Thank you for your service, Go Navy!, and good luck.
Same here. Except for the anti-gun thing, honestly. That's fairly rare.
Starbucks stands for everything that veterans fought against.
