Let the chips fall where they may. I hope Snowden testifies. NSA mass data collection on Americans is beyond the pale.
Snowden should establish a VLOG , a video blog, and just go on camera ,with whatever he has got , and let um have it .
Let the Bundes dudes come to him , put it out there for the world to hear . I cannot believe that more whistle blowers do not VLOG the heck out of whatever they have to say . Don’t they know?
He’ll say that US intelligence was skimming vast amounts of private data, and everyone will stand around shocked, SHOCKED, that gambling was going on.
If Germany-US unravels, NATO is no more.
Good going, Zero.
That’s unexpected. We were assured by the unbiased mainstream media that Obama would heal our relations with other countries, including in particular Germany (as he healed the world’s environment). Snowden is a former Obama fan who is upset at Obama personally for continuing and expanding policies that he despised. How could the media have gotten that so wrong?
The Bundestag reps should meet with him this winter - in Stalinngrad, and I would hope that meeting would be streamed live on the interweb.
You Germans helped to foist this demon upon us... I absolutely want you to expose what idiots your government and people have been. You did get some beer and music out of the deal so not all was waste. Enjoy the feast of your own making. Bring snowden in by all means. Please.
Truth be told, Germany needs to again think of itself not as “just a member” of the EU, of NATO, of whatever, but as a unique nation.
After the Napoleonic wars, France also renounced its history and officially despised Napoleon Bonaparte in the nastiest of terms. So much so that there are entire libraries devoted to just him and his reign. Technically, he is the second most written about individual after Jesus.
It took almost 150 years (1815-1965) for the French to finally get around to thinking of Napoleon Bonaparte as a great French leader, even if he eventually lost and was deposed.
And eventually, the Germans will do the same with Hitler. It is almost an inevitability, once he and Nazism and the evil that they wrought, and their victims, are no longer in living memory. It has been 68 years, so it will not be long now where the process will *begin* to see history more objectively. Though generally speaking it is more likely that a 100 must pass before not just the victims, but their children, are mostly gone. This would be the year 2045.
But, in the meantime, Germans have to recognize that they are German, and that this has a cultural and historical significance as a people, completely apart from membership in any organization. A people with a benign purpose.
This has been going on for decades. All major and mid-size countries are involved and they all do it. And everyone has known about this for decades, but did not make an issue of it.
What's changed?
What's changed is that Obama is not a normal President. His goal is to arrange the decline of the power, influence and economy of the United States. They all recognize that Obama is a weak, unreliable, back-stabbing, unserious leader, who's putting the US economy and dollar at risk.
These are huge threats to rest of the world, especially our allies. Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and al Qaeda all see this too and see this as a huge opportunity to expand their own power and influence. Putin and Merkel were named as more powerful than Obama
We have 3 1/2 years left of Obama. It'll take another 4 or more years for the US to recover. So we are talking another decade like the 1930's and the rise of the dictators. Our former allies are scrambling trying to come up with ways to protect themselves and looking to new partners and arrangement. The Egyptians are turing to the Saudis, Gulf States and Russia. The Germans are eyeing Russia.
If the US isn't a partner anymore, then it makes sense to weaken them further and using the NSA is a cheap way to do it.
But it's not about the spying.
We are patriots! Spying is goo for the country. Obama is bad. Therefore, Snowden is on Obama’s payroll. Signed - Joe Palooka.
I disagree! Hearing Snowden’s side of the story would be cleansing to the issue. All we’ve heard is what a clown he is. I think it would be good to hear his side also. Then I would make a decision as to who was right. Right now, I tend to agree that Snowden was right to speak up and expose a government that is spying on everybody without justification. This isn’t the Soviet Union of Joseph Stalin. This is the United States of America, may I remind you?
Leave it to the Islamic Jinn...I mean Barack H. Obama, to make an enemy out of Germany.
Our government is paranoid, armed and dangerous.
