TSA Agent Fatally Shot, Others Wounded In Shooting At LAX[More Details]
CBSLA.com) ^ | November 1, 2013 2:12 PM | John Miller

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A TSA agent was killed and several other people were injured Friday in a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport, police said.

CBS News’ John Miller said the gunman, who was outfitted in camouflage, entered Terminal 3 at 9:20 a.m. and opened fire.

Preliminary information suggests he was targeting TSA employees, according to Miller.

The suspect pulled an assault rifle — possibly an AR-15 — out of his bag, started shooting and proceeded to the TSA screening area, where he was able to gain access to the airport itself, according to Chief Patrick Gannon of Los Angeles World Airports.

Personnel officers followed the man, engaged in gunfire with him, and were subsequently able to take him into custody, Gannon said.

The Associated Press reports the suspect had a hand-written note with him that said he “wanted to kill TSA and pigs.”

Multiple sources say the alleged gunman, who was believed to be working alone, has been identified as 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia of Pennsville, New Jersey.

A 40-year-old TSA officer was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, a federal official told CBS News.

At least six other people were injured and treated at the scene. Five of them were taken to local hospitals, officials said. Three of them were transported to UCLA Medical Center, where one of them were listed in critical condition and two others were said to be in fair condition.

“We are sickened by reports of today’s shooting at the Los Angeles International Airport,” TSA Union Leader J. David Cox Sr. said. “Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the passengers and Transportation Security Officers killed or injured in this heinous act. Thank you to all of our brave TSOs who put their lives on the line every day to keep the flying public safe. AFGE is monitoring the situation along with TSA management.”

Terminal 3 was evacuated and cordoned off and arrival and departure roads to the airport, in addition to Century Boulevard, were closed. All airport exits from the 105 and 405 freeways were also shut down.

The airport partially reopened at 1 p.m., but delays were expected to last through Friday night.

Impossible. “Assault rifles” are illegal in California.

They did say he was from New Jersey, and they're practically growing from trees there. ;)

Newsman on LA channel 9 just said the cops at the shooter’s parent’s house in New Jersey haven’t found any guns connected to the shootings.

“.......a note in which Ciancia said he “wanted to kill TSA and pigs.”

I wonder what he used for his FR name.

My first thought was another one who was hearing voices and one of the voices was hussein.

Back in the day, people followed through with their suicides in private and didn’t intentionally take out everyone around them.

By no means am I condoning this murder, but I think this is among the early signs that the American people have had a belly-ful of government using ‘terrorism’ as cover to exert more control over We the People. The four words that a despotic government fears the most: lone wolf; direct action.

You know, I don't buy the "voices told me to do it" line of defense. How about the person telling them to f*** off? It's like when you have the "Satan told me to do it" defense, you know the guy believes at least the half about the evil dude in the book is true, so he knows it's taboo in society and/or he'll fry if he does because the Lord is just as real and ends up winning...

The only way crazy wins as a defense in my book is if the person is just a non functionally bat-s*** crazy gibbering idiot. Otherwise, the concept of right and wrong is still tucked away in there somewhere, and if there's more than one in there, they either need to be exorcised or the "vessel" needs incarceration...

“The suspect pulled an assault rifle — possibly an AR-15...”

The Ar-15 is not an assault rifle (or assault weapon). So many keep repeating that it is when it is not!

No one made in the image of God should ever be called pig, or any other derisive name. Yes, some people do bad things, and its right to call them out for it, but Jesus himself said there were spiritual consequences for going the route of name-calling. For one thing, our “culture of death” problem stems from our devaluing of human life. We call an unborn child a fetus to distance ourselves from their humanity. When we call law officers pigs, we are doing the same thing. It happens that in Islam, there is a teaching that infidels are literally not human, just pigs and monkeys that happen to look human. Some of the most heinous deeds are predicated on creating a hated class of subhumans that can be destroyed “in good conscience.”

That’s why the leftists of the sixties were the first to do this to law enforcement, calling them all pigs. But it was just to take away the respect necessary to the exercise of legitimate authority. The left wants to balkanize us into chaos by fomenting hated among all the traditional elements that hold our culture together. Stirring up class hatred of cops via labels like pig etc is just another way to play into their hands, because when SHTF, all these primal hatreds will play out. We are being programmed for our own defeat. We have to stand against that. You are what you think about. All humans, even the stupid and bad ones, are made after the image and likeness of God. The only appropriate response is repect, which includes honesty about failures, true, but leaves no room for name-calling.

“When we call law officers pigs, we are doing the same thing.”

The TSA are simple employees and not law enforcement officers, but they are pigs. No human, no American, would ever take such a job as to strip search Americans, fondle women and children, or invade our privacy all in the name of a paycheck.

Sorry SR, when a LEO decides it is OK to beat his daughter almost to death over her refusal to eat her peas, that's a pig, or some other appropriate adjective.

When the behavior is sub-human, the adjective should fit the behavior.

Newsman on LA channel 9 just said the cops at the shooter’s parent’s house in New Jersey haven’t found any guns connected to the shootings.

I suspect that it is just possible that he was carrying the gun connected to the shooting over there in LAX when the shooting occurred.
