Obamacare, Failing Ahead of Schedule
New York Times ^ | October 19, 2013 | by Ross Douthat

THIS is not the column about the Obamacare rollout I expected to write.

If you had told me, months ago, that weeks after the health care law’s coverage expansion went into effect I would be writing about the problems its launch had exposed, I would have assumed I’d be writing about rate shock, rising premiums and the disappearance of many cheap insurance plans.

I may be writing about those issues soon enough. But for now there is a more pressing subject: The online federal health care exchange, the heart of the Obamacare project, is such a rolling catastrophe that it may end up creating a major policy fiasco immediately rather than eventually.

If the fix-it effort moves too slowly, it’s possible to envision a worst-case scenario unfolding. If the Web site doesn’t work soon, even liberals concede that the mandate would have to be delayed, because you can’t very well fine people for failing to buy a product they can’t access. And that combination — a hard-to-navigate online portal and no penalty for staying uninsured — could effectively discourage all but the most desperate customers from shopping, which in turn would create an unsustainably expensive insurance pool, driving prices up and driving people away, and potentially wrecking the entire individual insurance market in short order.

True but he has no use for 0-Care and he might sway some of the liberal flock

“...fine people for failing to buy a product...”

Have you ever heard of such? What’s next? Fine people if they don’t buy a solar panel?

Cruz is already a National Hero to me.

I am fortunate to have some Texas friends who know the Cruz Family personally. They told me way back when he was the real deal.

I had no doubt. He is the most honest and hardest working Politician in D.C. and that’s the fact Jack.

Mike Lee is his wingman. The rest of the Republican Squadron never left the Tarmac. They were too busy trying to shoot down Cruz and Lee.

This was signed into law more that 3 1/2 years ago, what could possibly be wrong with these people that the website isn’t operating smooth as silk.

It just doesn’t seem like that overwhelming of a problem, there are only a limited number of options for exchange participants, they’ve been running unemployment checks on line for years and that seems a lot more complex.

Besides, they’ve had a lot of time.

“potentially wrecking the entire individual insurance market in short order.”

I thought that was the intention all along.

because you can’t very well fine people for failing to buy a product they can’t access.

Why not, they have fined oil refineries for not using a product that doesn't exist.

But it isn’t a fine, it’s a Tax.

Thank you John Roberts and the other Marxist Black Robed Thugs that he agreed with.

Cruz had the right idea even if implemented wrong (only wrong by the RINO’s). This will fail on its own but now our party (at this time, it may be another party eventually) is defined as against this. Thank goodness we have a few Republicans” that still stand for the people.

Where was this guy when certain senators were trying to put this in hold?? Now that the shutdown is over and the GOP has fully surrendered, he is coming out with these new discoveries. How convenient!

"But it seemed that way because it was hard to imagine the Obama White House botching the design and execution of its national health care exchange."

The structure of the law and its 10x words of regulations doom it as a benefit to America.

I agree. But Obama always planned for his constituency to be those on welfare , food stamps and government aid.

He has GREATLY expanded their ranks.

ACORN and all unions are making sure to bus these people to the polls. You and I think of Americans as the the middle class, the farmers, the people who strive.

Obama sees them as the welfare people.

So, who wins at the polls?

Well if they had succeeded in defunding the full impact would never have hit home to those who needed to suffer through it the most. So nothing against Cruz but the dynamics are more favorable if Republicans stand back and watch the crash and burn with the rest of us.

OK, so it’s paying a tax for failing to buy a product? I usually pay tax on something I do buy. Not on something I don’t buy. What else will I be taxed on for not buying? A solar panel? Some of Michelle’s recommended foods? This make any good common sense? Where is the logic in this approach to taxation?

So while Republican politicians may be salivating over a potential Obamacare crisis, the conservative policy thinkers I know are not. They’re hoping, as I’m hoping, that this isn’t as bad as it looks. The chance to say “I told you so” is always nice, but not if the price is a potentially irrecoverable disaster.

It's impossible to write a paragraph more stupid than that.

Just try. See? One can't. It's impossible.
