AP: Democrat Cory Booker wins special Senate election over Lonegan

The Associated Press has declared Newark Mayor Cory Booker the winner in Wednesday's special U.S. Senate election.

Booker defeated former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, a Tea Party Republican, to serve out the remainder of the late Frank Lautenberg’s term.

Although the race was close early on, Democrats were quick to declare Booker the winner. Only 40 minutes after polls closed at 8 p.m., the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee was declaring victory. A short time later, state Sen. Barbara Buono, who is running against Governor Christie in the Nov. 5 election, offered her congratulations to Booker.

So what will you do? Give up? Run someone else conservative? Run a liberal?

Strange as it may seem, the 12 seats in New Jersey’s House delegation in Washington are split 6-6 between Democrats and Republicans. Sure, many of the Republicans would be considered Marxists in some deep red states ... but Scott Garrett (unbelievably) is one of a select handful of House members who consistently receives a perfect 100 rating from the American Conservative Union.

I may not always agree with conservatives on every issue but I trust them far more than any damn liberal day or night without reservation. I agree with what Rush said today and the Ted Cruz and Mike Lee’s will benefit down the line and at least we know there are leaders left in this country.

Oh. You should have heard it! It was her at her ‘poor judge of character’ best.

Either that or it’s $ from sponsors or publishers. Ditto Bennett.

Wanted to pull over and vomit, but it was car pool, so I kept my cool.

That's an option. But NJ will still be there. They will run someone next year.

All good points. The real problem in New Jersey is one that is being replicated all over the country. It's suburbanization, and it explains the dramatic political shifts that have taken place in previously "red" states like Virginia and North Carolina.

If you take a poll of a random group of suburban voters you'd probably be shocked at how intellectually mediocre and emotionally stunted many of them are. This cuts across all age and income groups. Suburbia is not the kind of place where you'll find many principled conservatives. In fact, between taxpayer-funded schools and highway systems, these suburbs have been built largely on a foundation of nanny-state government.

What a conservative needs to do is run as a democrat for senate under a false flag. Nobody can know but him. When he gets elected he pulls the mask off and goes conservative big time. Switches Parties.

Strange as it may seem, the 12 seats in New Jersey’s House delegation in Washington are split 6-6 between Democrats and Republicans.

The NJ Republicans won the gerrymander for the Congressional redistricting as a result of the 2010 Census. Unfortunately, the NJ Democrat's map won for the legislature.

Lonegan's 44-55 loss (with 6277/6330 precincts) is actually better than almost every poll. Plus he was outspent 10-1. If the Republican Party had actually put some effort into this, who knows?

Yeah. I think in the article it used a pronoun indicating that Booker was a woman, just fyi. I didn’t know that until I saw the “her”.

Whats it going to take for America to get jolted into reality? We need an army of Ted Cruz and Mike Lee types to not only bravely lead but also teach and expound the tenets of true conservatism. Perhaps this full blown liberalism will need to die a tragic death with repurcussions. Wish it wasn’t so...

1. The GOP has done well in recent redistricting battles because the Democrats have a habit of running complete losers at the state level in elections before Census years (see Jim Florio in 1989 and Jon Corzine in 2009).

2. I don't think the national GOP will ever take New Jersey seriously in a U.S. Senate race. Heck, the Democrats don't really take these races seriously outside New Jersey, either.

Let’s compare the Booker coverage to that of Ted Cruz or Rand Paul. There is nothing in common, it’s day vs night.
