Club for Growth to GOP: Vote no
thehill.com ^ | October 16, 2013 | Erik Wasson

Posted on 10/16/2013 12:06:10 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

The conservative Club for Growth announced Wednesday that it opposes the Senate deal that raises the debt ceiling and ends the government shutdown.

It urged members to vote down the deal, and said it will punish members who support it on the Club's annual scorecard.

"This announced plan, the details of which aren't completely known, appears to have little to no reforms in it. There are no significant changes to ObamaCare, nothing on the other major entitlements that are racked with trillions in unfunded liabilities, and no meaningful spending cuts either," the Club for Growth said.

"If this bill passes, Congress will kick the can down the road, yet again."

Many House conservatives are expected to oppose the bill when it comes up for a vote, likely late Wednesday.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is expected to rely on House Democrats to pass the bill, but has sought to get a majority of his 232 members on board. The Senate deal reopens the government until Jan. 15, raises the debt ceiling until Feb. 7 and strengthens fraud prevention for the distribution of ObamaCare subsidies. It also maintains the current sequestration process, which will reduce the 2014 spending level to $967 billion in the new year.

The fact that the democrats are desperate to move on to the next crisis (immigration) should be enough to want to vote no.

Presuming every Democrat votes yes on it, doesn’t he only need like 20 House Republicans to also vote for it to pass the House? That is what I thought. And considering that there is no doubt that there will be 20 Republicans who will vote yes, doesn’t that mean that if Boehner actually does call a House vote that there is little that even House members supported by Club for Growth can do now? Since there are enough Republicans who have caved I am not sure what they can even do in the event that the House looks for a majority vote on this.

If enough Republicans plan to vote no, then Boehner will not bring up the deal for a vote.

If the house was smart they would pass a completely clean debt limit bill for three months and send it to the senate. Then they could reject the senate’s “compromise”.

So when the house passes bills Reid won’t do anything about it but when the Senate and Reid passes bills the house shouts alright where do we vote.

FFS, sick of the cowards we have in the senate and some in the house.

We could have made the cancer comment an issue , we could have made passing the bills to open Govt an issue but instead we always play defense.

Take the liberal media on, call them out on their networks and get some balls and go after the left for once

By even bringing it up he has pretty much wadded up and thrown away the ‘Hastert Rule.’ Boehner simply got spooked and threw in the towel like the gutless coward he has always been.

The only surprising thing is that he lasted this long before caving...

Might as well vote no. Let the democrats and the republican leadership vote for it. They’ll be absolved of all responsibility.

This is a chance to royally screw up Obama’s typical governance by crisis scam. The democrats desperately want to get away from the Obamacare/shutdown crisis and move on to immigration because its hurting them.

We need to make them ride this pig right into the ground.

Don’t worry. The GOP will surely hold the line against amnesty.

All that had to happen to spike the last senate deal was for Heritage to tell the GOP to vote no. Boehner got the message and didn’t bring the deal up for the vote. That’s why it’s important for groups like Heritage and Club for Growth to keep the pressure on the GOP.

They should attach the Vitter amendment and send it back to the Senate. And then go home.

i think you’re wrong. he’s already overruled the so-called hastert rule numerous times, and does not want the “blame” for obama’s default

It’s early yet, but rest assured. He will cave as he always does.

What remains to be seen is what he will do to punish the Tea Party folks who have made his idyllic life so difficult these past few months.
