The principal of a public high school in Washington, D.C. indicated that he would ask the student government to decide whether or not to prohibit clothing featuring the Washington Redskins name — something at least one American Indian student thought was offensive.
Principal Pete Cahall of Woodrow Wilson High School told The Washington Post that the decision would be placed in the hands of student council members, who would have the power to decide — on behalf of all students, collectively — whether the Redskins moniker is offensive.
“I’ve got no dog in the fight,” he told The Washington Post. “If nothing else, it’s a learning opportunity.”
He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
One American Indian student told Cahall that the name “Redskins” was offensive — a belief shared by President Barack Obama, who recently said it would be wise for the Washington-based NFL team to consider changing it. Since Obama’s pronouncement, various commentators have weighed in on the issue, including NBC sportscaster Bob Costas, who said the name was offensive and should be changed.
Some of the pressure to change the name comes from illegitimate sources, however. A New York state assemblywoman recently told The Daily Caller that self-proclaimed Oneida Nation leader Ray Halbritter is not actually an Oneida. Redskins owner Dan Snyder supports keeping the moniker and maintains that most American Indians do as well.

It's one of the most valuable sports brands in the world, which is the #1 reason Snyder isn't going to change the name. He's not going to crash the team's value by playing to half-empty stadiums in LA.

I was kidding. I don't really care about their casinos. I don't gamble. But I also don't want to hear their whining about "racism".

Diversity - 49% black, 22% white, 18% hispanic, .... 0% American Indian/Alaskan Native.
He may very well be the one and only American Indian enrolled. As if that didn’t make him special, now he wants even more attention.
This is one of the weirdest Progressive movements I’ve seen in a while.
What will they do when they discover that there is a Native American high school out West that has used the Redskins name for their sports teams for, oh, about 100 years? And they really like it because it pays honor to a specific American Indian.
Everything I hear, I now assume is a lie until proven otherwise.

Well as you noted, when they DO whine, you can remind them that they have advantages over palefaces too. Now it’s their fault if they squander the money on loose living rather than constructing a sane society, but hey we give them free rein to earn it.

The absurd irony escapes Principal Pete I guess...he is concerned that the name of an NFL football franchise, the Redskins, is somehow racially offensive even as he is the chief administrator of a school named after one of the most virulent racists in American history...a President who facilitated an exponential growth in the Ku Klux Klan when he featured “Birth of a Nation” at a White House showing, lavishing it with praise...a man who resegregated the entire Federal bureaucracy as a punishment for reconstruction...a retrograde Southerner who longed for an antebellum millieu where he blurt out the “N” word to his heart’s content...a President more than anxious to disenfranchise American sovereignty to the League of Nations, to pursue the agressive racism of Eugenics, a “progressive” Ivy League elitist who crushed Union organizers. That’s right..Woodrow Wilson is an offensive name for any school!
Yes Principal Pete, that’s the namesake of your VERY SCHOOL, and you feign phony concern about the Redskins? And where does this faux racism originate? It is a farcical product of cultural Marxism, where every institution and pursuit of the American culture is demeaned and criticized...Critical Theory if you will. No legitimate American Indian tribe is offended by this club. The name is a tribute, an honor bestowed out of respect. Is anyone screaming about the Celtics or the Fighting Irish...the Demon Deacons or the Dons? Of course not. This non-issue has been manufactured by the acolytes of the Frankfurt School...Commies!...as a vehicle to further the incessant and continuous attack on all things American.
