MANSFIELD, LA (KSLA) - When a wild shopping spree fueled by what appeared to be "limitless" Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards ensued at two Louisiana Walmarts, not everyone who receive food stamp benefits joined in.

EBT cards: The great debate Walmart shelves in Springhill, Mansfield, cleared in EBT glitch DCFS: All SNAP EBT service restored In cell phone video that is circulating the Internet, several hundred people can be seen filling their shopping carts at Springhill and Mansfield Walmarts, when the stores apparently continued accepting EBT cards even though they weren't showing limits.
However, what can't be seen in those videos are the people who get food stamp assistance and chose not to abuse the system. One Ark-La-Tex man, who asked not to be identified, was one of them, though he admits the thought did cross his mind. "The first thing I thought of was, rib eye steak tonight instead of ramen noodles, but if we would have done that, I would have felt too guilty," he said.

And there was nothing left on the shelves...
They know what accounts this food was charged on,
just put them in the negative until their benefits catch up.
Well, I'm glad there are still honest people in the world. It shows you what the media thinks of the “masses” when it has to do a story to show there are still honest people out there. Who'd ‘ave thunk. I would have thought the press would love this, isn't this how they want food stamps to work all the time? Aren't the poor the victims that deserve free stuff?
Maybe if we taught “Thou shalt not steal,” in school we would be reporting about only one or two people who decided to go hog-wild. Instead the story is about the few who didn't turn into deranged lunatics. The love of money....
Not to many people thought that way....most thought they deserved it and it was theirs...free ..free..free..disgusting I think..
Yeah right, libtard media scum... 99% of the parasitic feral vermin made the other 1% look bad. STFU.
Just as there are folks that attend and clean up after rallies (tea party) and folks that attend and trash (occupyers)... there are folks that don’t abuse EBT and those that do.
Seems like there are always two kinds of people.
WalMart views EBT as an infinite well of revenue for the stores. They are investing their “losses” in that vision. They don’t want to upset their most profitable patrons by refusing to “sell” them stuff just because their money is gaseous.
What a great political Ad Walmart has made. I hope it is used properly, but I’m sure it won’t. The Republicans don’t have the stomachs to say much more than “Our Democrat friends made a miscalculation on their EBT cards”.
Learned that lesson as a kid watching the looters in the ‘77 NYC Blackout. The prevailing opinion was that they were entitled to their loot, and in fact, the blackout was just “God letting us get even with The Man!”
Nothing has changed.
Those that pay taxes are required to follow thousands of arcane rules to provide the funds for these benefits. And if you make a mistake the IRS can take just about everything you own. I suggest we put the takers on the same system as the givers. If don't want people to take advantage of problems like this why reward them with shopping sprees for it? I can tell you what my bank would say if this happened to someone’s debit card.
Oh, the number of deserving poor people that aren’t out to game the system is probably higher than 1%, maybe more like 4%.
Us taxpayers will pick up that check. As usual.
Because there was nothing left to steal.
Because there was nothing left to steal.
Because there was nothing left to steal.
No—The ones that didn’t were drunk, stoned, or otherwise unaware of the great opportunity that had presented itself.
Think about it, the ones who didn’t join were the ones who are even too lazy to loot.
Some hookers really do have a heart of gold!
Most don't though.
Or perhaps they represented a completely different demographic than those who were doing the looting. You know, the melanin challenged.
