(NY) GOPers eye Donald Trump for governor run
New York Post ^ | 10/14/13 | Frederic U Dicker

Increasingly desperate New York Republicans, seeking the political equivalent of a Hail Mary pass, are trying to get Donald Trump to run against Gov. Cuomo next year….

They’re seeking to make the case that while Trump is only an apprentice politician, he’s the only Republican on the horizon who has the name recognition, guts and money to tell Cuomo, “You’re fired!”

They’re also arguing that Trump could launch a 2016 presidential run — which he has clearly been eyeing with his criticisms of President Obama and Washington — by first winning the election for governor.

So far, Trump, who only recently learned of the effort, which is backed by state GOP Chairman Ed Cox and other party leaders, hasn’t said a flat “no.’’ ****

With Cox’s knowledge, Rochester-area Assemblyman Bill Nojay has begun circulating to other party leaders a three-page memo on how Trump could defeat Cuomo next year.

It contends that Trump’s celebrity status and popularity with disaffected Republican and Democratic voters, along with Cuomo’s unpopularity upstate, could produce a Trump victory.

The memo concedes the state GOP’s desperation.

“There is only one prospective candidate who could run on the GOP line and win against Cuomo in 2014 — Donald Trump,’’ it declares.

The NYS GOP is the bellwether of things to come nationally.

After decades of watered down "moderation," the NYS party has no candidates, limited funding and has been reduced to begging billionaires with dubious conservative credentials to run for office for at least the past dozen years: Golisano, Paladino, Bloomberg and now Trump.

Meanwhile, the national party is following down the same path, albeit slightly behind the curve. Romney was just the beginning.

I saw him on FOX this morning and I couldn’t figure out whether he was attacking or supporting conservatives in the whole Obamacare/debt ceiling fight. I think it was a little bit of both.

I say if Trump runs, he’ll clobber his competition.

He should run.

I really have nothing against Donald Trump, but this is a terrible idea. Cuomo may be a big fat lib, but I give him credit for having a dignified demeanor - which is always kind of refreshing in Noo Yawk. Trump will look like a complete clown compared to him; Cuomo won’t have to do anything, he’ll just have to stand there and be “not THAT guy”.

That would work out about as well as Arnold Schwartzenegger as governor.

I heard him too and I thought he was defending conservatives like Cruz, Gohmert and Paul who aren’t afraid to act regardless of the liberal leaning polls. He did say that Conservatives hold more power then they realize but they are too divided. I thought he was critical of the defeatist Conservatives who want t cave in to the Democrats because they are afraid of losing. Thing is with Trump you just never know what position he will take on issues from one day to another. He also attacked the Governor over taxes in NY and the fact that business are closing and moving to states like Texas.

RE :”I saw him on FOX this morning and I couldn’t figure out whether he was attacking or supporting conservatives in the whole Obamacare/debt ceiling fight. I think it was a little bit of both.”

that's Trump. Yep, he doesnt say which half of GOP he is calling the problem.
Many posters here (Trumps Chumps) just assume he means McCain and Peter King, not Cruz and Lee.
Pretty funny,
'Go Trump. Finally someone brave enough to tell the truth!' LOL.

Now ya got me interested

How would Donald Trump negotiate a debt ceiling deal? :The Donald weighs in (FNC vid Oct 14 2013)

Trump running would be worth mountains of popcorn -- but I think New York has crossed the Rubicon as far as it's takers. There is no going back.

I doubt Trump would win, and I doubt he would go for it. His ego is huge enough but he likes free publicity much better than paying for it.

You got it. As the old saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Trump is a bit of a show horse.
