And Now, Ted Cruz Cloned
New York Times ^ | October 11, 2013 | By GAIL COLLINS

Posted on 10/13/2013 7:25:29 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Our question for today is: What does next Wednesday’s Senate election in New Jersey mean to those of us who don’t live in New Jersey?

Lonegan says that if he wins, President Obama will instantly “fold” on health care reform. Actually if Lonegan wins, President Obama will probably faint. Along with a lot of other people, including every Republican senator who has not been yearning for a new friend who’s even crazier than Ted Cruz.

White men of New Jersey, we understand that you’re irked about the way the world is going and that it makes you feel better to tell some person who calls you on the phone, interrupting your dinner, that you’re going to go out and vote for Steve Lonegan, a man who once expressed his view of the social safety net by saying, “I’d hate to see you get cancer, but that’s your problem, not mine.”

But really, white men of New Jersey, get a grip.

It’s theoretically possible that Lonegan could win. Perhaps nobody in New Jersey will remember there’s an election next Wednesday except Lonegan’s immediate family. Then, he’d make history while all the Republicans who are trying to dial their party back from a cliff bang their heads against the wall.

I needed a good LOL! She has provided it. One can only hope that Lonnegan wins, cause I would enjoy knowing that McCain and his group of Merry’s would be spitting nails.

He’s deployed more guards to bar our World War II heroes from their memorial than he sent to Benghazi when our consulate was under attack.

The President is treating our veterans the same way he treated school kids when he cancelled their White House tours. When times called for obvious government belt-tightening, he took it out on kids rather than look for anything that would affect him personally. And while our vets are barricaded from the memorial they built with their heroism, the government “slim down” won’t affect Obama’s golf game or his family’s White House chefs.

Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are attempting to fund the Veterans Administration and other essential functions, but Democrats are blocking them because they want to make any slim down look as awful as possible in order to deflect from what this whole slim down thing is about, which is their Obamacare train wreck.

Racist, sexist, bigot with a pen.

Simply amazing! It's like the liberal establishment has become exactly what they claimed to be wrong in this country, and really don't care.

Yes, liberals think that the way to win converts to their cause is through smarmy condescension. Good luck with that.

Booker has a double-digit lead according to all the polls, although his double digits used to be larger than they are now. There seems to be an enormous gender gap, with Lonegan doing particularly well among white men.

And there you go.

They are. While Lonegan's chances have to be considered slim (outspoken Tea Party candidate in a statewide election in New Jersey should, at least according to conventional wisdom, lose by 15 points or more). The Democrats are terrified that the Republicans find courage, because they know that getting the Republicans to fold gives them long term dominance. And the race is apparently not the blowout they expected.

This will be the spin: nobody knew or cared about the election, so the Tea Party fringe was able to sneak in (or make it close, depending). The question is: will the Rovian Republican establishment buy that spin? The smart money is "yes".

Imagine for a moment if a conservative ever wrote a column like this about a black candidate? That aside if Steve Lonegan wins it will be a victory for those who are tired of the way Washington doesn’t work. The Ted Cruz’s, the Mike Lee’s, the Rand Paul’s, and the Steve Lonegan’s represent REAL change in Washington DC. They actually take seriously the overspending, the out of control growth of federal govt, and the way individual liberties are being increasingly trampled as the constitution is disregarded.
Its an uphill battle but we may be in for a surprise in NJ.
Obama’s approval is under water in NJ at 45%. Steve has been doing the only thing possible he could do to win and that is drive up the base vote and hit Booker hard. Christie should be helping more than he is but then again Christie is just about Christie and that is one of many reasons why he shouldn’t be our nominee. These so called moderates like to talk about unity and how they want a big tent tolerating different views but when they have a chance to demonstrate action in their words they are almost always reaching out to liberals not conservatives.

Steve wins on Wednesday and it will be like the shot heard round the world. I hope all who live in NJ realize that and do everything they can to make it happen.

d hate to see you get cancer, but that’s your problem, not mine.

Assuming he said this, and with no context, why would the heifer have a problem with it anyway? Harry Reid said the same thing, vehemently, and the left shrugged its shoulders.
