Is wearing make-up a 'betrayal'? One woman's dramatic transformation sparks online backlash
Daily Mail ^ | Friday, October 11, 2013 | Margot Peppers

A set of before and after photos that show the dramatic difference between a woman with and without make-up have sparked an internet debate about cosmetics.

Posted by make-up artist Melissa Murphy, the images, simply captioned: 'Make-up. That's it,' show a bare-faced woman with acne scars and shiny skin, and then her transformation after putting on make-up, with thicker eyebrows, flawless looking skin and a seemingly thinner face.

One person replied that a woman's personality counts more than her make-up routine, writing: 'You only feel "betrayed" because you put too much value on looks.'

In response to this accusation, plokoonismyfave pointed out the fact that a man who artificially altered his appearance would be seen in a negative light, too.

'If a guy wore prosthetic muscles under a long-sleeve shirt (à la Superman costumes), you would likely feel as if you had been deceived, regardless of what you thought of the person,' he wrote.

Disguise: One commenter pointed out: 'If a guy wore prosthetic muscles under a long-sleeve shirt, you would likely feel as if you had been deceived, regardless of what you thought of the person'

He then went on to accuse the woman in the photo of disguising her insecurities with cosmetics.

'The girl in the photo is apparently not satisfied with the way she looks without makeup,' he said, 'and uses makeup to artificially portray a person more people would find attractive.'

Others stayed out of the debate altogether, instead admiring the miraculous transformation made possible by the make-up artist, who also shares her work on Instagram.

'Holy crap! That's amazing,' wrote one fan of the make-over. 'I would've never been able to tell that those two pictures were the same person. If this is your work, you have an amazing talent!'

Yep, the missing smile in both pics is the give away.

I think there is more than makeup going on in that second photo. It looks retouched to me.

Also, the pic on the right looks less feminine, in a way. Meaning, for a moment I wondered if that was an XY trying to be an XX. I think it’s the overly done hair and the eyebrows.

One of the unknown benefits of Obamacare. You get access to a prospective partner’s personal history:

1. History of mental disorders, prescriptions for anti-depressants.

2. History of ...uhm...certain transmissible diseases

3. History of bodily modifications and enhancements. Laytex, Silicone, or otherwise (since truth in advertising matters).

4. Depending on the health care plan purchased (Gold, Silver, Copper?), you can tell much about a prospective partner’s income status

On and on. The benefits are endless \sarc

I’m wearing make up, I don’t care who says what.

They don't mention that in the "after" picture she also has a major hairstyle change.

All I can say about the makeup issue is caveat emptor.

This story reminded me of an old ‘All In The Family’ episode in which Gloria donned a brunette wig just for fun and Mike got all turned on and went animal. After a few lusty romps, Gloria tired of the wig and got rid of it and Mike told her to get another wig. She didn’t, and Mike seemed to lose interest in Gloria. Gloria, of course, then went ballistic on Mike.
Etc.

When on earth will the feminists and other lefty simpletons understand that men are different from women?
Wait. Nevermind.

Say, didn't she used to dance at Baby Dolls down on Shady Trail in Dallas?

I prefer a woman who wears nothing at all.

Hy I may be old but I’m not dead yet!

OMG! Susan Estrech is on FOX right now! I take it all back! A double brown bag would help her!

All I can say about the makeup issue is caveat emptor.

Not to mention silicone, nose jobs, plastic surgery, etc. If I was on the prowl today and things got serious, I would do some serious background vetting. Just checking out the mother to see what the future holds may not be enough anymore.

Thank you for making me chuckle. I was carefully evaluating each with makeup and without makeup photo. And then I got to the last one. LOL

Nose job and lip enhancement. My first thought was; they are not the same person. But surgery is more likely the answer.

My ex-husband always used to say that men can see right through makeup and clothes, so there aren’t really any surprises. I do get more attrition when I’m wearing makeup, but a smile and a confident attitude bring the most male attention. I’ve read some studies showing that men respond most favorably to a woman when she’s wearing lipstick, not because it fools anyone but because it’s a message saying, “I’m trying to look pretty for you, I’m interested, I’m not a feminist.”
