President Barack Obama on Friday rejected a critical part of the House Republicans latest proposal to extend the federal debt ceiling, which linked a short-term increase to further negotiations on the budget, White House spokesman Jay Carney said.
It is our view that we cannot have a situation where the debt ceiling is extended as part of a budget negotiation process for only six weeks, which would put us right back in the same position that were in now, Carney told reporters in a briefing at the White House.
A proposal that puts a debt-ceiling increase at only six weeks, tied to budget negotiations, would put us right back where we are today in just six weeks, on the verge of Thanksgiving and the obviously important shopping season leading up to the holidays, he said. And that would create enormous uncertainty for our economy.

Threat or a promise?
I’m glad he rejected it. Gasoline is down to 2.99 and headed lower. When it gets back down to 1.00/gal, then he can reopen the government. Although he should keep the EPA in shutdown mode.
..Stay the course...keep praying
By ‘POS’, do you mean President of Sodom ?
Heh. Depends on your point of view, I suppose.
I think what Obama is doing is manuevering Boehner into an impossible position, a situation where Boehner will feel he simply has no choice but to suspend the ‘Hastert Rule’ and do the clean votes.
Probably be the last thing he does as Speaker of the House, and I’m sure he knows that as well. And he’s probably to hold off doing it until the last possible moment.
So, you're solution is shut-up, sit down, don't fight, go along to get along and be thankful for the crumbs that fall from the Democrat table?
Sorry, but that's what it sounds like...
Carson / Palin 2016!
I can’t say I disagree with you; my point was that since perceptions are everything; if they are seen trying to do normal business while waiting for POTUS and the Senate to do something other than making speeches (words just words).
You know what really needs to happen is to bankrupt the lame-stream media; put them out on the street out of business. We don’t need more fiction; we need facts and truth. This President will go down in history as they very worst we ever had; there is absolutely nothing good or decent about the man.
Boehner’s position as Speaker of the House is the least of our problems.
Using private emails is a good way to hide. Private emails on subjects of discussion are, at best, inappropriate and useless. I ignore them unless they are of a private nature.
The shutdown is a disaster if we fold.
Amazingly we haven’t yet. Astonishingly the Senate Republicans haven’t stabbed us in the back yet.
It’s not over, yet.
guarantees, not promises.
“The GOP is trying to sell us out and Obama wont let them.”
“There have been so many different headlines at different times today that I can’t tell where we are anymore”
Both are interesting observations I probably had not thought through. What I said was Obama smells blood and wants more concessions. But you guys are adding yet another dimension. He wants more than legislative concessions. He wants more permanent destruction of the GOP. He wants conservatives to see Boehner grovel more and more, offer 110% and that is still not enough etc Obama actually wants to try and find a way to get a dem House majority in 2014. Conventional logic is that is unlikely given the disaster of ObamaCare. I am not so sure given the power of propaganda and the predisposition of the RNC to screw up.

That's one meaning. I was thinking of another.
The worst of it is I think that we have Obama right where we want him.
His acolytes are already claiming that the Constitution enables their Savior to raise the debt ceiling without congressional action.
Boehner ought to make him a generous offer but with one sticking point-—either a year’s delay on Obamacare, a two percent real annual reduction in entitlement spending, whatever.
Obama would refuse, then after Oct. 17th would unilaterally increase the debt ceiling AND our spending.
But with no continuing resolution the government would still be officially closed and Obamacare would still not be funded.
Let Obama become Czar of his own bankrupt policies and treasury, and watch the place come apart at the seams. Get the fun started...
This is why I wasn’t all that upset over the apparent “cave” by the GOP in this specific case - Obama is too tied to the need to WIN that he can’t accept anything less than complete abdication by hos political foes.
Yours is a point well taken.
If Boehner caves in now it could mean the destruction of the GOP.
Not many will support a GOP that caves in at this point.
It’s like a fighter who had his man on the ropes and backed off.
True and I hope I’m proven wrong...but it’s Obama’s media. The old saying..don’t fight a man who buys ink by the barrel still holds true . Obamcare is DOA. The folks don’t want it . We could have taken it out without a government shutdown. Newt got mangled in the last shutdown and he’s a lot more articulate then Bonier. ...and Obama is more of a thug then Clinton. Maybe I’m wrong but I think we went into a gunfight with a knife.
Is that just more b.s.?
I don’t know.
I am like you, I keep reading about deals here and deals there.
Ryan is trying to sell us out and Collins is wanting to sell out everything to get rid of the health device tax. Boehner offered a deal. Who can tell WTF is going on.
They all met with Obama today and even Cruz seemed to be willing to take Obamacare if we could get rid of some parts of it.
We don’t need to pick it apart we need to bury it.
