“The GOP is trying to sell us out and Obama wont let them.”
“There have been so many different headlines at different times today that I can’t tell where we are anymore”
Both are interesting observations I probably had not thought through. What I said was Obama smells blood and wants more concessions. But you guys are adding yet another dimension. He wants more than legislative concessions. He wants more permanent destruction of the GOP. He wants conservatives to see Boehner grovel more and more, offer 110% and that is still not enough etc Obama actually wants to try and find a way to get a dem House majority in 2014. Conventional logic is that is unlikely given the disaster of ObamaCare. I am not so sure given the power of propaganda and the predisposition of the RNC to screw up.

The worst of it is I think that we have Obama right where we want him.
His acolytes are already claiming that the Constitution enables their Savior to raise the debt ceiling without congressional action.
Boehner ought to make him a generous offer but with one sticking point-—either a year’s delay on Obamacare, a two percent real annual reduction in entitlement spending, whatever.
Obama would refuse, then after Oct. 17th would unilaterally increase the debt ceiling AND our spending.
But with no continuing resolution the government would still be officially closed and Obamacare would still not be funded.
Let Obama become Czar of his own bankrupt policies and treasury, and watch the place come apart at the seams. Get the fun started...
Yours is a point well taken.
If Boehner caves in now it could mean the destruction of the GOP.
Not many will support a GOP that caves in at this point.
It’s like a fighter who had his man on the ropes and backed off.
The solution is easy:
1) The government is adding $1 trillion per year in debt. Increase the debt limit by $250 billion or approximately 1/4 of a year of spending.
2) Pass appropriations bills for each department of the government with no increase in spending versus prior year (not the normal baseline increase of 7%). For HHS, fund all activities at prior year level except Obamacare.
3) Tell the people you’ve funded the government and extended the debt limit. It is now up to Reid and Obama whether or not they want to keep the government closed.
If the Senate refuses to vote on the bills every Republican should stick to the same talking points. We funded the government at the current level. We extended the debt limit. If the government remains shut down or defaults it is because the Democrats in the Senate chose the shut down and default.
Then let the chips fall where they may.
If Obama and the Dems say they need more spending, Boehner should tell them he is happy to negotiate any time they want to meet with him.
The Constitution gives the power of the purse 100% to the House. My message to the GOP - Use the power in the Constitution.
