A Minneapolis man who was beaten within an inch of his life has forgiven the five teens responsible for the shocking, unprovoked attack.
Ray Widstrand doesn't remember the fateful night of August 4, however authorities say the then-26-year-old found himself in the middle of a terrifying gang confrontation on the streets near his St Paul apartment and was kicked, stomped on and left to die.
But Widstrand doesn't believe the beating is a reflection of the community and said he wished the teens the best.
'That was just a freak accident,' Widstrand, who is now 27, told the Star Tribune. 'It was just young kids lashing out. I was a young kid once. I lashed out.'

Unbelievable! (well, maybe it isn't). There needs to be less forgiveness and more retribution for these attacks, otherwise they'll continue. And, we all know teen is code word for...
Weakness. This crap should be dealt with harshly and simply not tolerated.
I was just reading the other night about Reginald Denny... the truck driver pulled out of the cab of his truck and beaten by savages during the LA Riots... it’s a very similar story. Look on Wikipedia, that’s where I was reading all this, I believe.
Freak accident? Accident must have a different meaning than what I grew up with. The attack was perpetrated by Amish utes, I presume.
well they did it- they beat him senseless...
What a dumbass.
Freak accident? IMHO, some people are just too stupid to live.
Best Post Award.
Hey, it's his moral and spiritual right to forgive these monsters.
The rest of us should try them, convict them, and hang them by their cowardly necks on public lamp posts until they are dead.
“well they did it- they beat him senseless...”
lol, you said it best. What a pussified metrosexual.
I feel bad for what happened to him, but he is living in an alternate universe.
He is now brain damaged and in rehab therapy for years. He is an idiot to forgive them. But is his way of coping with the awful situation he is now in. You have to move above and beyond but I would not forgive. In other cultures you get revenge and this has its pluses.
America is mostly a non-revenge nation full of people fantasizing they are too good and superior for such tawdry actions
And this fruitcake comes with Stockholm syndrome, white guilt and brain damage.
look up Amanda Kijera, the families of Rachael Corrie, Amy Elizabeth Biehl and Nick Berg
That’s how you are suppose to behave
Liberalism is a mental disease and Liberals are a Cancer on the human race
Mathew 6:14. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.....
A warning and command from our Lord and Savior.....
I was beaten by 8 gang members in LA. An unknown Good Samaritan with a handgun scared them away before they finished me off. When that happens, you crap your pants because you are about to die.
Fortunately, I got their license plate numbers and the LAPD rounded up 5 of them. That was when the intimidation began 24x7. It is scary and discourages you from pressing charges.
I dropped the charges when the pre-trial intake judge told me they would likely get suspended sentences. I circled the date 5 years in the future to take my revenge when nobody would make the connection back to the beating.
Forgiveness is the only way this man will ever get over what happened to him and I hope that for his peace of mind he has forgiven his attackers. That said, it is not for the rest of us (society) to forgive and those thugs should be swinging from streetlamps.
You’re my hero.
They'll all be dead or in the slammer anyway.
That’s quite a dent in the side of his head. The ability to think logically has been damaged beyond repair.
