"The president was very disturbed to learn of this problem," said White House press secretary Jay Carney. "The president expects this to be fixed today. He was not pleased."

The only reason the death benefits are being restored is because even 0dumb0shit realized the American people might, just might, start to hold him accountable for the pain being inflicted on the American people because of the shut.
The gubmint could lay off fully 50% (or maybe even 75%) of the federal employees, not including the active military, and it would not affect us in the least. Instead 0dumb0shit's marching orders are to inflict pain upon the American people with his petty, vindictive actions. But withholding the death benefits? Yes, the liar in chief blinked and caved as he should have done from the very start.
No way I can take the blame for this, and those damned House Republicans are managing to blame it all on me. Damn. I am not pleased with the poll and focus group figures. Better order them to fix this now and sound all presidential.
An earlier edition of the New York Times cited DOD spokesperson as saying that Pentagon and DOD attys had conferred with the Dept. of Justice lawyers as well as White House Legal Advisors before withholding the payments.

He got the first part he wanted: I don't think the families of the dead soldiers were at Dover, but Hagel was. He wanted to exclude them, and he did. We still haven't heard if anybody's been paid or if proper funerals have been arranged.
We're still in the "Obastard has promised" phase of the rehabilitation of this story. Screw him, no matter what he does it won't be good enough. (Spit!)
