A record-breaking storm that dumped 4 feet of snow in parts of western South Dakota left ranchers dealing with heavy losses, in some cases perhaps up to half their herds, as they assess how many of their cattle died during the unseasonably early blizzard.

Meanwhile, utility companies were working to restore power to tens of thousands of people still without electricity Monday after the weekend storm that was part of a powerful weather system that also buried parts of Wyoming and Colorado with snow and produced destructive tornadoes in Nebraska and Iowa. At least four deaths were attributed to the weather, including a South Dakota man who collapsed while cleaning snow off his roof. …

After the snow melts they will bring out semis to haul off the dead cattle

Ravines are death traps for cattle that instinctively migrate to them thinking they're going to get shelter.......

That’ll be a laugh!

You are a troll and I am not sure how the mods missed you, it is plain as day. Please don’t send me any more private mail, if you have something to say to me post it in the thread but I do not want to communicate with you any more. Before I read enough of your posts to determine you are a troll I was trying to educate you so you did not sound so ignorant.

And we never really got the chance to become ~really~ good FRiends.

(Perhaps he migrated, along with his cattle. And his coconuts.)

I think I figured out why there aren't any pictures of the dead cattle.

This is an actual photo from Rapid City this morning.

The cattle are under the snow.

Yowch.
I haven’t personally seen that much snow.
Of course, NY would end up an apocalyptic wasteland if it ever received that much snow.
[Buffalo, you’re excluded, you don’t count!]

Wonder what else is undert that snow?
[Hey, 23... you see that snow? I bet you think that ain’t there either, right?]

“Isn't it their business to forecast with reliable models? “

Weather prediction is alot like rolling dice.
There are variables that the models cannot take into account.
So the prediction often does not equal the outcome.

Several snowstorms here in New York occurred with only a 12 to 23% chance of snow.
