There's the crux. No, I, nor anyone, needs to understand the mysteries of creation immediately. But it sure is fun demystifying them one by one. Are you proposing we don't examine such mysteries, throw our hands up and proclaim, "I don't understand this! God did it!"

Sorry, I can't do that. The desert dwelling scientifically illiterates of the middle east did that 2,000 years ago and gave us the bible. Since that time, we've learned a few things. Like how to prepare and serve pork that doesn't kill us, for one.

In those 2,000 years, we have "demystified" so much of this world around us. And each and every single time, there has been a naturalistic explanation. We have not yet come to the conclusion any single time that a supernatural deity was the force behind anything. Until such a day comes, I'll stick to my guns.

Also, you've set up a false dichotomy: "but you do have to believe in the most intelligent of designers." Why? Aren't there other options? Other gods? Discounting the sciencse, humanities and human history suggest many options.

At the risk of sounding rude, LOL. The idea of a hell is, quite honestly, absurd.

One last point - I would hope that an omniscient god would not be besmirched or phased by a lone long-dead student of natural history.

A few things I’d like to say about out recent broadened topic.
I believe true Christianity has be the basis for modern science. Whether it be Newton, Farraday, or Pasteur, a basic search for the mysteries of our Creator has been the basis of much scientific research. It has only been since the early 1800’s has the arrogant pride of scientists attempted to supplant God with their materialistic theories. Many brave scientists and thinkers have tried to prevent the spread of Darwinism and Freudism in western civilization.
as for the bible being written by “desert dwelling scientific illiterates” I would cite ancient Egyptians, Sumerians, Aztecs, etc. as refutation of that. I believe man is probably dumber today after thousands of years of bad mutations. Noah was probably a brillisnt boatbuilder with use of iron and hand tools. The Bible when it speaks scientifically is absolutely correct. whether it be the ‘orb of the earth” or “life is in the blood” or the great chapters 38-41 of Job, The Bible is so far above Gilgamesh type legends.
I do not believe that I can lead you to theism by any argument. It takes a Kirkegardian “leap of faith” to put your trust in God. He gives us the gift of faith and opens our spiritual eyes to spiritual realities. When it comes time for dying I much rather put my trust in the loving God of the Bible than the darkness and futility of darwinian exctinction
