NEW YORK (CNN Money)-- The head of Barilla pasta issued a new apology and said he will meet with gay groups, adding he "has much to learn" about the evolution of the family.
Guido Barilla, president of Barilla, said on an Italian radio program last week that he wouldn't feature same-sex couples in his company's commercials because he prefers the "traditional" family. The company quickly issued a statement apologizing for the comment.
Now Barilla has posted a video of him apologizing in English on its Facebook page.
"Through my entire life I have always respected every person I've met, including gays and their families, without any distinctions," he said. "I've never discriminated against anyone." He said the was "depressed and saddened" by the reaction to his comments.

Now he’s managed to lose both sides of the debate. Not too smart.
Guido, you had me as a fan when you issued your first pro-family statement.
There are more customers who buy your stuff that are pro-family than are pro-sodomy.
Just shut it. You’re beginning to irritate those of us who are on your side.
God has already told us everything we need to know about Sodomites. They are an abomination in His eyes and will burn in Hell for eternity unless they repent and accept Jesus as their Saviour.
He was right the first time he commented.
Crap. Barilla’s president was admirable but a bit foolish to openly challenge the homos in his official capacity. One can stand for family values without needlessly creating a controversy that risks harming your company and its employees. Now it’s even worse that he’s backed down. The poor company will be raked over the coals by the Gaystapo for this. He should have just stood by his original statement and let the chips fall where they may. The sodomites will never let it go, just like you wrote.
How many times have the gays argued that what happens in the privacy of their own bedroom is their own business?
If it's truly private and in the bedroom, why do gays think they have any "right" to have it piped into our living rooms in the form of advertising?
Dang, we were going to stock up on their stuff too. Another limp noodle in the culture war.
Interesting headline.... Since his Initial remarks were not anti gay....
Why do they always back down? It never ends. He should have just stood by his statement and in a few weeks it would all have blown over. Once they start the apology train it never ends. You are right its never enough.
Never smart as a company to piss off EVERYONE.
Guido don't think too good.
I've seen houses and cars with "sold" signs on them, but never spaghetti.
Social issues are very important to me.
You would think the GOP would learn from this and maybe use it once in a while. But hey, they don't call it the stupid party for nothing.
Then ALL will be forgiven.
Exactly! I hope he can get by selling to just the fags.
Guido the Eunoch.
Guido lost his balls to the Homo’s.
Yup, and as a consumer you have the right to say “No thanks”. That message is starting to resonate with companies who feel the need to make a political statement. If I had a vacuum cleaner to sell for instance, I would advertise the machine with some cool VFX and maybe some technical terms why my vacuum is aces. And that would be it!!!!! If a doofus like me can figure this out...why can’t the marketing/advertising geniuses?
Aaah - just don’t buy it. I loved Barilla, and thought they should be supported, but they’ve done a 180. I’m sure there are some others just as good. I will buy them. But no more Barilla.
I would occasionally see Fagottini on the menu in my travels to Italy and in my forays of Italian restaurants in downtown Manhattan that was always worth a giggle, the entymology of its unique name always a strange one to figure out. But that package is no mere farcical photoshop figment. It’s just an unfortunate happenstance that only makes the trouble he’s gotten himself in all the more whimsical.
The perverts and their supporters all fell over themselves claiming that he never "apologized," so I, and many others were misdirected in choosing to no longer choose Barilla pasta.
I was convinced then, and I continue to believe that I did the right thing dumping about six pounds of the stuff; there are only two humans in this household.
This clueless Italian capitalist didn't know when to stop digging. Go PC and there's no winning strategy.
