No, a complete fold would be awful in addition to being demoralizing (for the GOP's continuance as an entity anyway).

But I think it wasn't an either or situation. The delay was offered as a fig leaf to avoid the shutdown and it got rejected even before the vote. So the HOR tried to demonstrate it was being reasonable. But that is a waste of time with this stonewalling Senate and Prez. See, the SSM gives them no credit anyway. And so goes the low info voter.

My strategic concern is that there is a danger from the delay itself. It is a good thing that so many FReepers see that already.

Please expand on this. How would it demoralize Dems? I like the sound of it already.

I am a fan of public offering Dems stuff that I am sure they will reject as a weapon to claim they are the unreasonable ones.

In this case I found PERFECT examples supporting my position on this:

Lee and Cruz themselves say they personally dont support a compromise like that but both have been going on CNN and NBC under fire and they seem giddy that they can throw back examples of how the GOP has offered to compromise compared to O who just says 'my way or highway'.
They recognize its a useful weapon. But On Levin's show its useless.

Alternately I did see thatNorthern VA congressman on TV calling for House GOP to give Reid his ‘clean’ CR claiming that House's latest CR compromise , 1 year delay in mandate and cut congresses subsity, is asking for so little its not even worth a shutdown over.
Thats not a good argument for Dems, it is a better one (but not great) for House members wanting to give in to use.
