Obamacare's average monthly cost across U.S.: $328
yahoo ^ | 3/29/2013 | Caroline Humer (Reuters)

Americans will pay an average premium of $328 monthly for a mid-tier health insurance plan when the Obamacare health exchanges open for enrollment next week, and most will qualify for government subsidies to lower that price, the federal government said on Wednesday.

The figure, based on data for approved insurance plans in 48 states, is the broadest national estimate for the cost of coverage when President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law takes full effect next year. The prices of the new plans are at the heart of a political debate over whether they will be affordable enough to attract millions of uninsured Americans when enrollment begins on October 1.

Obama, who is facing a Republican threat to eliminate funding for the law or shut down the federal government next week, said the fierce opposition stems from the fear that Americans will embrace the program.

"Essentially they're saying people will like this thing too much, and then it will be really hard to roll back," Obama said on Tuesday in a conversation about healthcare with former President Bill Clinton. "What we're saying is, just look for yourself. Take a look at it, and you will discover that this is a good deal for you."

The Obama administration is counting on signing up 7 million Americans, including 2.7 million younger and healthier consumers who are needed to offset the costs of sicker members, in the first full year of reform through the state exchanges.

What's to afford? Queen Sebelius will just order significant cutbacks in services rendered, amounting to 'death panels'. Hey wait a minute, who got mocked for her warning us about death panels?

Get sick and the first 5000 USD in med cost is on you before the insurance kicks in. You hope you get sick in Jan and not Dec after paying 330 USD x 11 months plus first 5000 USD in initial med costs.

"Essentially they're saying people will like this thing too much, and then it will be really hard to roll back,"

Who and what is this creature ? How in the world can he state such when he himself has said the plan has problems ? He has had to grant extensions and waivers to more people then can be counted. This is beyond contempt for the people who will be stuck with these bills. If this thing gets implemented the response will be a major TAX strike across the board. If you are not gonna pay this IRS Healthcare bill, why pay any of their bills ? Right now I am about as close to a tax strike as possible just because the US government is aiding and abetting terrorism. And Obama acknowledged that recently by waiving the laws preventing the US from aiding and abetting terrorists. I cannot give money to such an organization. It would be like paying Hitler to kill you.

I think it’s going to be much more than that even at the beginning and prices will rise astronomically, while care will decline shortly thereafter.

Right now I pay nothing---zero--for a HD plan. So, basically, I will now be paying a lot for a worse plan.

Thankfully, none of us takes any medication. (knock on wood

I have friends who take a lot of medication. One has autoimmune problems and lives on all sorts of stuff. Her kids all take RX allergy stuff, the husband takes some cholesterol and blood pressure stuff. Another has a kid with severe asthma. This is probably going to crush them.

So only $1300 a month for family of 4 for a mid term plan
before anyone even visits a doctor

plus a huge deductible when you do

and everything gets worse next year

yes people will die because this makes actually seeing a doctor unaffordable for so many

at least Sandra Fluck will get free birth control

Am I understanding this right? We are going to subsidize the lower income (being polite here). BUT, they still won't be able to afford to see a doctor anyway because the deductibles are so high? Or are we required to pay those for them too?

This is absolutely insane.

Everything is out of pocket until about $ 6,000 even in the better plans.

It’s bare bones insurance.

I hate our government all of them and especially our president and I use that term loosely.

They are taking away any disposable income you might have after you pay taxes, payments you may have, rent food and gas.

Evil

Haven’t heard a word about deductibles.”

I doubt if Obama has ever even looked at an insurance policy so hasn’t a clue about deductibles or co-pays. He also doesn’t DARE address the issue that a whole lot of doctors are getting out of the networks so a lot of medical care will be based on private pay rates. In a lot of areas if you really need to see a doctor you’ll either have to pay private pay rates, go to a clinic with long lines or see a Nurse Practitioner. Of course he doesn’t understand about contract rates, the need for doctors to pay staff, liability insurance, etc. Going to be tough for solo practitioners to survive unless they are private pay only.

And the rule of thumb will be, you only pay premiums if you pay income taxes. If you don’t, the rest of us (the 47%?) will ‘subsidize’ you/’hoss your freight.’

That's what I am seeing. So, the low income folks still won't have insurance, really.

Right now that's exactly what I have. No coverage until I hit the 6k number. I can afford it and lemme tell ya-aint nobody going to the doctor here unless it is a necessity.

The subsidized (not all but many) are going to be the first one's revolting because they THINK this means FREE healthcare for them.
