Kevin McCarthy: House Will Send Third Volley to Senate if Reid Rejects Last Night’s Bill
National Review Online ^ | September 29, 2013 | Jonathan Strong

Posted on 09/29/2013 10:28:41 AM PDT by don-o

House GOP whip Kevin McCarthy said the House will send a third government-funding bill with “a few other options” if the Democratic-controlled Senate rejects the bill passed in the House last night, as expected.

“We will pass a bill . . . that will keep the government open, that will reflect the House, that I believe the Senate can accept, that will have fundamental changes to Obamacare that can protect the economy for America,” McCarthy said on Fox News Sunday.

The remarks confirm National Review Online’s reporting yesterday that House leadership is considering an eleventh-hour play like passing a “clean” continuing resolution (CR) with language added to end a subsidy for congressional staffers to purchase health insurance.

McCarthy said there are “a lot of items on the table” in discussions about which provision to add to an otherwise clean CR.

From discussions with rank-and-file Republicans late into the evening last night in the Capitol, it’s clear the plan will run into some resistance from the GOP conference. The closed-door meeting where Speaker John Boehner announced the latest plan turned into something of a pep rally, producing a unified conference ready to charge into battle with Obama. Boehner did not mention the next step to his strategy to his members, and at least most of them did not appear to anticipate he would be going in that direction.

On two occasions in the past several weeks, GOP leadership has unveiled a plan only to see conservatives quickly defeat it, prompting questions over whether that could happen again as leadership prepares a culled-down third volley to send to Reid.

McCarthy obviously learned poker at Tammy Faye’s school of Show Em.

Telegraphing the cave in the Dems know is coming. Some things never change. I don’t know how Cruz, Paul, Lee etc keep getting up in the morning.

So McCarthy is telling the senate to defeat the bill the house just sent over to them because we will be sending them another one more to their liking next time?

No, he is saying that "we know you are intransigent and by now predictable".

Everytime the House sends it over they should cut some more money from Obama’s favourite programs from it until he gets the message.

Wake up folks!

McCarthy, Boehner and McConnell are no longer the leaders of Congressional Republicans. They no longer speak for Republicans. We should ignore everything that they say.

Ted Cruz now leads the Republican Party. That's as of the last forty-eight hours.

But Harry Reid is certainly the leader of Congressional Democrats. Barack Obama is no longer the leader, or any kind of leader at all, as of the Syrian debacle.

Everything Harry Reid says should now be taken as the official Democratic position.

So, let the people decide.

To whom will you entrust your health care and the future of the country ... Ted Cruz or Harry Reid?

We have a winner in that battle.

“PRAY for them instead of just putting them down.....they are trying against GREAT ODDS....they need our encouragement. Call their local and DC offices to let them know you approve.”

Sound advice!

If someone rejects your offer completely, you don't compromise with yourself. You send back the exact same thing. That sends a message that the other side better give somewhere or you are not budging.

Alternatively you can simply carve it up into smaller chunks.

What is wrong with sending the Senate multiple CRs - each one funding specific items, then conveniently forgetting to send a CR over that funds Obamacare?

That would drive Reid absolutely insane if a hundred "clean" CR bills were sent to the Senate.

The House could say, "We sent over 'clean' bills. What's their problem? The President asked for 'clean' bills. We provided them."

That’s exactly what I try to get prosecutors to do as a defense attorney.
Get them bidding against themselves.
It happens to the best of them.
And you are absolutely correct.
I don’t get why the GOP is so intimidated by Reid and Co.
It’s like the GOP knows that the dems know that the GOP will blink first and it is a self fulfilling prophesy.
So frustrating!

" ... with sending the Senate multiple CRs"

Republicans are doing one bit of that by sending a separate military pay bill. And reportedly the Democrats are going to cave and approve that.

It is way way too late for this to succeed though. If the GOP wanted to win a shutdown they would have started preparing months ago. They'd have millions of dollars of attack ads ready. Each would know their role and what to say. They would have been attacking ObamaCare day and night for weeks, driving down its approval rating.

The Democrats and their media toadies know their roles. They've probably already got the videos ready to roll on each day of the shutdown. "Grandpa dies because of shutdown". "Shutdown gives Spot fleas."

Boehner on the other hand is playing it minute by minute and just says what his next move will be.

The poker analogy is false because a government shutdown cannot be won merely by bluffing. It’s like assuming that an average man could get in the ring with the heavyweight champion and win by bluffing and good intentions. In reality that average man would be unconscious in a matter of seconds.

Whoever gets the public on their side wins the government shutdown. And that requires skill, hard work, lots of money, and the opportunity to speak to the public. If the GOP establishment tried to fight, they’d be knocked out quickly because they aren’t ready, their heart isn’t in it, and the media are against them.

Concur; GOP is the only opposition to obamacare, et al. The whiners who have lots of time on their hands are so annoying they drive busier, more rational folks away from FR. If only more white men had voted in the last 2 presidential elections we would not even be having this thread. Instead of always blaming politicians they should simply and relentlessly vote for the candidate/party with the best chance of unseating the Obama regime. There is no perfection in earthly politics but there are severe consequences.

Obama has found it very easy to advance his narrow ideological agenda of failure-prone Marxism.

4 years after Obama conned his Democrats into passing the Federal takeover of the cash cow of Medical Insurance, the PC, Doormat Republicans are finally timidly suggesting defunding that Federal takeover.

Without the weak, PC, Doormat Republicans Boehner and McConnell being stupidly kept in their respective leadership positions by truly cowardly House and Senate Members, Obama Medical Insurance “Care” Takeover would have been defunded long ago.

The primal yearning of the 47 % who pay no personal Federal Income tax is to belong to a tribe where all of their choices are dictated to them by their arrogant tribal leader.

This a common trait of those who have low self-esteem.

In that sense, Obamanation is truly a cult.

Freedom is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) Exemption or liberation from slavery or imprisonment.
3.) Liberty of choice or action.

Most of the 47 % riding in the “free” wagon seek out slavery, and lack of personal choice.

They thus feel safe.

Liberty is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) The state of being exempt from the domination of others or from restricting circumstances; freedom.
5.) The power of voluntary choice: freedom from necessity.
6.) Individual Liberty: Freedom from restraint in the performance of rights outside of government control.

Most people who are getting a free ride in the wagon where 47 % pay no personal Federal Income Taxes, are terrified of making a voluntary choice.

The 47 % would prefer that they be under government control where the choices are made for him.

All of this societal wussiness has made it very easy for B. Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, to advance his narrow ideological agenda of European-style, failure-prone, Marxism in spite of PC, Doormat Republican token “opposition.”

BTW, unlike taxes, Federal Obama ‘care’ Insurance charges can be increased EVERY YEAR to whatever % the present and future arrogant leaders of Obamanation wants.

BTW, BTW, the free-loading 47 % will always vote for the Candidate for POTUS approved by Obamanation.

I like the way you think. You are right. Send it back with the defunding restored, and repeal a few noxious elements of the law itself while you are at it.

See that’s were we disagree, I do not think they indented to defund obamacare which is why it appears they are going to cave yet again.
I did call offices and everyone of the republicans who said the were opposed to funding obmacare voted for it.

That is the best idea I have seen floated, but I wouldn’t start on that until the shutdown. Show that we are willing to stick it out, then send the spending bills one at a time. The day the Dems whine about students not getting their loans, send the education bill. The day the Dems talk about welfare payments, send the Health Dept. bill to Harry. Etc, etc. What a wonderful strategy. I don’t think Boehner has it in him, judging by how they are so anxious to send something back that Harry will accept.
