HARTFORD — A police officer's gun accidentally discharged during a response to an armed robbery on Franklin Avenue on Saturday, and an officer was shot in the arm, police said.

It was not clear whether the officer whose gun discharged was shot, or another officer. The injury to the officer's forearm is non-life threatening, police said.

The officers were responding at about 9:30 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery at the Subway restaurant at 465 Franklin Ave.

For generations cops carried double action revolvers with no safety and apparently not as many accidents.

NYPD stats say otherwise.

The gun didn’t just ‘discharge’.

But I thought guns were responsible for 'gun violence'??

NYPD stats say otherwise.

Possibly. What do they say about putting 60 rounds into a guy who was just taking out his wallet.

They were doing that before the Glock, too. The Rolling Stones made a song about it back in the Stoned Age - Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo aka Heartbreaker.

Remember, many New York City cops interpretation of the New York Reload was to fire both of their revolvers at once.

Dad was NYPD. he retired in ‘68. He joined up in 46 right after the Marines and WW II. Because of the Marines he knew how to shoot and taught me how to shoot. You cannot say that the bulk of NYPD knows how to shoot. It seems pray and spray is de rigueur with the department.

The problem isn’t the weapon.

Actually, almost every time the problem is a loose nut on the trigger.

My dad told me of an old time Irish NYPD cop back in ‘46, who cocked a hammer back ( not acceptable even when dad was a cop as it was considered ‘execution’ to shoot a perp with a cocked hammer using a double action revolver) on a perp. Once help arrived and the perp was cuffed, he fired out the round into a garbage pail as he did not know how to lower the hammer back down
