Headline at Drudge Report "DELAY OBAMACARE A YEAR OR WE WILL SHUT IT DOWN - BOEHNER MAKES MOVE"
I definitely am as skeptical as you that what happened in 1995 has any relevance to today’s situation. Although we can see the libs are using the same tactic they did then, attacking the personalities of Republicans for causing the conflict instead of the substantive issues at play.
I guess we have to also consider the fact that some in the polls who dislike Obamacare are the far left who wanted single payer instead. So they are likely to keep backing Obama in a partisan fight.
I think we’re about to find out.
On Saturday, Republican leadership already seemed to be planning to minimize the political fallout of a shutdown.
Their new proposal also includes a measure that would continue to pay U.S. military forces, eliminating one of the most politically sensitive impacts if a shutdown comes.
The Senate will reject both the one-year delay of the Affordable Care Act and the repeal of the medical device tax, Reid said in a statement, referring to the health-care law.
Exactly. If Obamacare ever actually takes effect, it'll never actually be rescinded, just as no other huge government program like it has ever been rescinded. They'll just say they didn't go far enough, blame everything but the program itself, start slapping band aids all over the thing trying to save it, throwing more good dollars after bad. It has to be stopped, cold, in its tracks, or we'll be stuck with it forever.
Then the House can just start sending the funding bills for the government over one branch at a time, starting with the military, and dare them to block that. That's about all the founding fathers thought we needed from the central government, anyway.
Yep.
Many of the people I know complaining about McCainCare would sooner cut off their own nose than vote Republican. So you are right, the polls have to be taken with a grain of salt.
But there is another side to this, as well. How many of the people who “blame” the Republicans do so because that was the only reasonably close choice given on a particular poll? If I support the shutdown, but then am given a choice as to who to “blame” for the shutdown, which selection do I choose, R or D? Also, if they see the shutdown as bad, how passionate are they about it? What about people who don’t want a shutdown, but are wary of ObamaCare. Will they blame Republicans, but also be somewhat supportive?
Polls, at this point, are somewhat useless data points. The only thing to really take from them is that whoever is paying for the polling probably is looking for a certain outcome, and anyone familiar with polling knows how easy this can be.
The biggest reason, imho, to oppose the idea of a delay in implementing barrycare, is because it was stupid fathead ROVE’S idea. Screw him, screw his idiot ideas, screw his losing bullcrap manuvering and everything else that toad stands for.
SHUT THE WHOLE DAMN THING DOWN. WE WILL REJOICE IN THE STREETS.
I agree.
Let Obama and Reid reject funding for the military which will anger most while protecting ObamaCare that few want.
The Democrats are going to own this mess.
Since the stories about NSA eavesdropping and unfair IRS targeting broke in the mainstream, I'm seeing a lot of people on BOTH sides of the isle questioning if this government is worth paying for anymore. We could actually be at a moment where the pendulum starts swinging back the other way again.
I’d like to hear Boehner say there will be no more negotiation, take it or leave it.
Otherwise they’ll negotiate the sob to death and in the end nothing was done.
Don’t blink Boehner!
President Obama lied to us — he told America some real whoppers about ObamaCare
“It wasnt a white lie. It wasnt a fib. It wasnt a half truth. It was a bold-faced lie.”
I don’t know Kenny, this whole delay tactic is the brain child of Rove. Anything that little hairless freak touches, causes us mountains of trouble.
Doesn’t matter anyway, the strong and steady reid *cough* said no go.
This whole thing is a cluster, I can’t wait to read the next chapter.
the reason this delay tactic will work is Obama will most likely Veto it- and the shutdown is clearly his fault- if that can be tweeted, broadcast and talked bout far and wide, day in and day out
If they can cut funding to White House operations then watch Obama cave.
I am as well. Finally people have gotten the clarity that it truly isn’t right vs left as much as it is US vs THEM.
Other than conservatives who are working together, I know of no one who even gives a crap anymore. They are tired of all the circus acts. Those are the ones I spend time talking to, in the attempt to educate them to what is at stake come election time.
It’s just down right exhausting.
You just reminded me of a point I'd forgotten. That's right, people treated the "sequester" like a non-event, some even mocked it.
Excellent point, thanks for mentioning that. I'll have to re-adjust my "people are stupid/low information voter" argument a bit.
Rules committee is on CSPAN live now, for anyone interested.
All excellent points, thanks.
Washerwoman Schultz just entered the room..... (hide your children and small animals!!)
