I’m a little slow, but I never understood cloture and how it works and how it affects me..

my understanding is this (anyone correct me if I am wrong)

the cloture vote is needed to end debate on the CR...once debate is ended no more amendments can be offered and Harry Reid can then strip the language to defund obamacare. In addition voting for cloture means that Harry only needs 51 votes to pass the CR ( without the defunding portion) instead of 2/3.

We wanted to hold the line here with 41 votes so that Reid could not go forward with his plan to allow ONLY ONE amendment to the House-passed Continuing Resolution Bill.

The "moderate" Republicans have a different "strategy", so they are voting to move on to Reid's amendment. Reid will strip the House bill of the Obamacare defunding and then the Senate will vote on the bill, with only simple majority needed for passage. The bill will then go back to the House.

The House will then either attempt to put the language back in or will vote on the Senate amended bill.

Alternatively, there are rumors circulating that Boehner will produce another bill which raises the debt ceiling with the condition of a one year delay in Obamacare.

Cloture is a vote to end debate on a bill and proceed to a vote on the bill. It requires 60 votes to reach cloture. If 41 or more senators vote against cloture the bill does not get voted on. Once cloture is reached, the vote on the bill can be held but that vote only requires a simple majority and then the bill passes. In essence, a vote for cloture ensures that the bill will pass. Watch for Republicans who voted for cloture but then vote against the bill take to the airways to proclaim that they voted against Obamacare - they will be liars.

I loked it up.It says to end it.I guess tat means not vote on amendments to it.
