I believe in fighting for a cause, but not when it is for "show" and the "fight" does not advance the cause. What Cruz is doing is for show, and even he admitted last week it will never pass the Senate.
There is no way a Continuing Resolution is going to be passed in the Senate and signed by Obama. None. Even if it passed, they don't have 60 votes to override his veto.
We lost ObamaCare when Olympia Snow (R-ME) was the deciding vote to move it out of the Senate Committee. She knew Reid would use tricks to move the vote to a simple majority in the end, which he did.
We lost ObamaCare when Romney lost the election, and we lost Senate seats.
We lost ObamaCare when Judas Roberts changed his vote (for God knows what reason).
Our only hope is to win back the Senate and override Obama's veto, or win back the White House and convince enough Democrats to vote with Republicans for a true repeal.
The House has voted 40 times (literally) to repeal ObamaCare. The CR attempt is 41, and I don't think 41 is the charm.
Then the house should reject what the senate sends back to them and instead begin sending clean bills to fund each essential department one at a time, with none of them having funds for obamacare, and those departments charged with implementing obamacare funded last, ie, HHS, IRS, etc., and cut those by a sufficient amount that they cannot possibly implement it. If the House does not fund it, it cannot be funded and the senate can pound sand. If it takes all year, thats fine.
Jim - I would love to see that happen, and you know how much I respect you. But there simply isn't the political will to do that (especially from the majority of Republicans in either the House or Senate). At the most, 30-40 House Tea Party members would even go there. And while the House can pass measures to continue to fund debt payments and Entitlements, the prioritization of payments cannot be forced on either the Senate or the White House. There is our fundamental problem again.
All Obama and the Democrats have to do is threaten to delay Social Security checks for a few days or weeks, and all hell will break loose.
He has done it before.
The media will blame the GOP, and the GOP will panic.
ObamaCare is evil. It will accelerate the ruin of this nation. It isn't about Health Care, it is about Control.
But GOP pols talking tough on Hannity's show are all bluster. I know the political reality with this one, and I am tired of being lied to.
