When Rand Paul did his filibuster, he was there most of the time by himself. As the hours went on, a couple of other Senators came and ‘interrupted’ him with lengthy questions and comments — to give him a brief rest.

As the day and hours wore on more Senators and even some House members showed up. Many of them were rather embarrassed because Paul had taken a stand and the rest of them were out having dinner and drinks.

If this one goes on very long, it will hit Twitter and other social media. That will force the MSM to give it some cursory coverage. That will also embarrass other Senators who chose to stay away.

If the Senators think their phones have been ringing off the walls lately, wait until tomorrow — if they fail to show support for Cruz.

There are rules regarding giving up the floor. You can give up the floor for a question, but you give up the floor for someone else to take over debate and you run the risk of yielding for good.
