American gun use is out of control. Shouldn't the world intervene?
The Guardian (UK) ^ | Sept 21, 2013 | Henry Porter

Posted on 09/23/2013 6:42:07 PM PDT by Innovative

The death toll from firearms in the US suggests that the country is gripped by civil war

The annual toll from firearms in the US is running at 32,000 deaths and climbing, even though the general crime rate is on a downward path (it is 40% lower than in 1980). If this perennial slaughter doesn't qualify for intercession by the UN and all relevant NGOs, it is hard to know what does.

But no nation sees itself as outsiders do. Half the country is sane and rational while the other half simply doesn't grasp the inconsistencies and historic lunacy of its position, which springs from the second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and is derived from English common law and our 1689 Bill of Rights. We dispensed with these rights long ago, but American gun owners cleave to them with the tenacity that previous generations fought to continue slavery.

There is absolutely nothing he (Obama) can do, which underscores the fact that America is in a jam and that international pressure may be one way of reducing the slaughter over the next generation. This has reached the point where it has ceased to be a domestic issue. The world cannot stand idly by.

Or, as someone else put it, “gun control” is not about guns, it’s about control.

Henry, you are woefully misguided here.

But since you’re interested in lending a helping hand, my suggestion is to contact people like Rahm, Jessie, Al, most of Hollywood, all of the American msm, and the Chief Community Organizer himself and have them put a stop to the gangbangers in our cities.

“Or, as someone else put it, “gun control” is not about guns, it’s about control.”

There’s an element of truth to that. In any case, it’s *not* about public safety.

"...the second amendment right to keep and bear arms...is derived from English common law and our 1689 Bill of Rights."

Mr. Porter is speaking from the point of the same tyranical country that our founding fathers fought to separate from. Of course he is going to think that HIS country was responsible for a Right at the same time when HIS country was eliminating rights. He is speaking from the highest branch in the Tree of Ignorance. More on this later.

"...We dispensed with these rights long ago"

snort. He actually wrote this...and meant it as a positive thing.

Mr. Porter fails to recognize that the American system of government has been established such that the government serves the people, not the people serving the government. The founding fathers recognized that the most benign government WILL become tyranical, if given the chance, and if the government is the master over the people then it has that chance.

The right to bear arms is the ultimate expression of freedom. It is a demonstration that the people are in charge.

Mr. Porter's presentation of trumped-up statistics about murder rates is irrelevant. Perhaps the more relevant question might be: How's that government-mandated health care program working for you, Mr. Porter?

Let’s make a deal with the Brits, we’ll keep the Churchill bust, and you can have our lame Muzzie POS prez. The Brits can give him another peace prize or bring him up on war crimes, whatever.
Ah, but, we’ll keep our guns. There’ll be a rifle behind every blade of grass if you want to try anything stupid.

Yes sir, I agree with you. I am at least a quarter English myself, and I have many British cousins. Many British are not infavor of the gun control imposed on them by the tyrrants there.

Curious how “the world” is going to “intervene” to take our guns away.

Wouldn’t that require that “the world” come over here, with guns to force us to give up ours?

The trouble is gangs and unfettered lawlessness, not guns.

Illegal immigration has increased the strength of gangs by not rounding up and shipping back to country of origin, plus making a pact with the countries to put the perps in prison. That done, crime would be down to livable levels.

Get real, journalists and Brits. How's the no firearms rule working out in GB? Seems to me honest citizens are getting assaulted, robbed, raped, etc. with no recourse.

So, get the log out of your own eye before searching for the mote in ours.

How many of the 32,000 are suicides?

Last I looked “death by hands or feet” was far more than GSW.

“reducing the slaughter over the next generation.”

Outside of a few liberal cities, we have one of the lowest murders rates worldwide. Fifth from the bottom I believe.

Invaders have been quite successfully dealt with before. And yes we had traitors who would have sacrificed everyone’s rights then too. Those traitors were also dealt with during the implementation of the long lasting solution. We are not going anywhere and will never give up our constitutional rights.

If there are any questions please ask and simplified four letter words that you can clearly understand will be used for your clarification.
