At least five people were killed when gunmen burst into a shopping mall in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on Saturday and opened fire, witnesses said.
Police helicopters circled overhead as armed police shouted "get out, get out", and scores of shoppers fled the building. Smoke poured out of one entrance and witnesses said they heard grenade blasts.
Others said they saw about five armed assailants storm the Westgate shopping mall and that the incident appeared to be an attack rather than an armed robbery.
The Somali militant group al Shabaab has previously threatened to strike the Westgate mall that is popular with the city's expatriate community. It would have been packed on a Saturday morning.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident.
"They don't seem like thugs, this is not a robbery incident," said Yukeh Mannasseh who was on the mall's top floor when the shooting started. "It seems like an attack. The guards who saw them said they were shooting indiscriminately."
One eyewitness who identified himself as Taha said he heard the screech of brakes followed moments later by an explosion and then sustained gun fire from the ground floor.
Sporadic gun shots could be heard almost two hours after the shooting started as police combed the building.
At least two dozen wounded were wheeled out on stretchers and shopping trolleys.

I live in Kenya, and this is most possibly a terrorist attack. While it is possible I may be wrong and it is ‘just’ a robbery, not many robberies involve grenades. Westgate Mall is a high end mall frequented by wealthy Kenyans and expatriates, and in terms of a soft target it is almost perfect. Thus, it is most probably another ‘gift’ from the usual suspects.
On another subject......so, are the that @@#$#$@$$# guy that keeps sending me emails about a lost super account from the local dictator? :^)

No, he wouldn’t. He’d say instead that it is an ‘AR-15 grenade.’ Didn’t the Navy shooter have an ‘AR-15 shotgun?’ I wouldn’t be surprised if CNN is saying the terrorists had AR-15s.
Latest: The recce squad just moved inside the mall. These are western trained (Us and Israel) armed with the latest gear and M4s. Also it seems people have stopped pretending it’s just a robbery.

I suspect there were some instantaneous conversions.
So there’s islam - target a mall specifically on a day when they’re holding a children’s event.

I’m wondering when countries will start just outlawing Islam.
A Kenyan friend of mine said the Nairobi airport was also bombed recently.
That's Nigerians, not Kenyans, from all reports I've heard.
I certainly hope the Kenyans don’t have to put up with any PC nonsense, and go and wipe out anyone associated with this.
