On Friday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer mocked the Republican tactic of using the budget process to defund President Barack Obama’s 2010 health care reform law.
Krauthammer called the House’s vote to defund the law “Kabuki” and warned that it would come back to haunt congressional Republicans.
“I think the Boehner speech is what you would expect,” Krauthammer said. “He didn’t want to do it. He had to do it, so he had to defend it, and that’s Kabuki. I think it’s going to go to the Senate and if we end up with a shutdown, it’s going to be Kamikaze, and the Republicans will end up sushi — very thin slices. And everybody knows this. This is sort of a charade. Cruz is going to get a lot of airtime. He’s gotten a huge amount of airtime. There is nowhere to go on this.”
He did note the law was very unpopular and was fraught with flaws, but he said the Republicans could stand in the way of defeating it.
“The irony is as I have been saying for weeks, Obamacare is so unpopular even the unions are up in arms against it,” he said. “The AFL-CIO came within a hair of calling for its repeal. Right now they want all kinds of changes, which they are not going to get. You’ve got Democrats against it. It’s about to kick in and we heard today that they don’t even have the software that will enable the system to calculate what the subsidies are after hearing that they don’t have the software to ascertain what you say is your income and thus, your subsidy. It’s true, so it’s on an honor system. This is going to be a complete disaster. We’re on the threshold of that. As Chuck indicates, the Republicans were on the upswing of the issue and now this? It’s insane and it’s not going to happen.”
Look...it was 0bama who said he won’t negotiate.
If it is true that the majority of Americans don’t want 0bamacare then if Republicans play their cards right (like when has that happened?) they can shove the ....

We’re not going to win back the Senate in 2014 by defunding or delaying parts of ObamaCare. All that will do is allow the Dems and the media to blame Republican for the FUBAR that ObamaCare has already created — “If not for Republican obstructionism....”
If you want people to go the the polls in the 2014 mid-terms fully informed about the total catastrophe that is ObamaCare, then the Republicans should just stand aside and very publicly say, “You wanted it, you got it. We won’t block a thing. Full speed ahead. Enjoy your ObamaCare, and vote accordingly in 2014.”

Once upon a time, you'd have been correct. The traditional Republican spokesmen -- Romney, McCain, Graham, Boehner, McConnell, Rove etc. -- couldn't explain their way out of a cobweb.
The emerging new Republican leadership -- Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Tom Graves, etc. -- can effectively explain their actions and how they will benefit the American people (even the LIV). And how it is the Democrats who are actually making the choice to shutdown government over Obamacare!
Cruz, Lee, Graves understand conservatism...because they are conservatives.
I am beginning to think that Krauthammer is French.
I believe most of the time Dr. K. has good observations and insights, and he is certainly very intelligent.
But on this one he is wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.
Obamacare is depressing the economy and costing millions of jobs from where we could be without it.
Obamacare is also a great threat to our health care in this country.
Obamacare was also passed by the most outrageous means (including Pelosi not letting anybody read or comment on the bill, and Pres. Obama lies about how it would never be permitted to fund abortions)
i am not sure japanese is always the wrong paradigm. they fought like crazy (i’d use another word but it would be unprintable) during wwii. it really saved the west’s rear that they were tuned in to their emperor well enough that when he yielded, so did they.
Krauthammer is wrong on occasion. This is one of those occasions.
Voters respect courage and courageous acts. The bipartisan vote in the House is supported by common sense and reflects the will of the people.
Obamacare is immensely unpopular among Democrats and Republicans. Forcing a destructive and counterproductive law that cannot be implemented as written, a complex and unfair law that was passed without even reading it, needs to be dispatched.
The corrupt and unpopular Senate will do all it can to blame the Republicans. I do not think that old, used tactic will work this time.
The Senate Democrats would be punishing via a government shutdown, and then punishing again its constituents by force feeding them against their will another failed, economically destructive program.

You do realize that mid-term elections are next year? And that we need to regain control of the Senate? Those idiots believe ObamaCare is awesome because they haven't experienced the catastrophe we know it will be. And they won't understand how destructive ObamaCare is until they experience it personally (we've had five years to argue, debate and persuade them, to no avail).
What makes you think the idiots will make a more informed decision about ObamaCare in 2014 by delaying the pain of ObamaCare?
There is a reason why full implementation of ObamaCare was postponed until *after* the 2012 presidential election cycle. To allow Obama to be reelected *before* people realized what a disaster ObamaCare was. Now you want to play into the Democrats' hands by delaying the pain for yet another election cycle, one in which we could regain control of the Senate?
