Two House Republicans abandoned a bipartisan group crafting a comprehensive immigration reform bill, dealing a potentially fatal blow to an effort that had been more than four years in the making.
Texas Reps. John Carter and Sam Johnson announced in a joint statement Friday they were leaving the group of seven, saying they could not trust President Obama to enforce an immigration bill that might pass Congress.

Responding to Carter and Johnson, [Illinois Democrat Rep Luis] Gutierrez signaled a shift in tactics among advocates for immigration reform, from engaging in bipartisan talks to holding mass demonstrations to pressure Republican leaders to act.
"It is clear the bipartisan group's work was not being embraced by Republican leaders, so this allows us to put the focus squarely on Speaker Boehner and his lieutenants to decide if they are serious about reform and if so, to do something more than talk, Gutierrez said in a statement.
Rallies are planned across the country on Oct. 5 and in Washington on Oct. 8 to press for immigration reform........

That’s good news, CW.
If we can keep this Frankenstein monster of a bill off the House floor until after the first of the year, we may have dodged yet another amnesty push for a few years.
They are feeling the wrath of the people,,,smart move!
It would seem that cracks in this administration are widening and people are starting to run for the hills. This exodus might spread to all corners and sectors of our country - so many places where Obama and his henchmen have been busy “leveling” the playing field.
Sam Johnson was my rep when I lived in TX. WWII vet.
I never thought he would ever be involved in a scam like this.
With the ObamaCare trainwreck just down the road, how in the heck are we supposed to be able to pay for amnesty for the populations of Mexico, Central and South America?
When Republicans use their House constitutional power of the purse to deal with Obama, it's called "extortion."
When Democrats bypass their constitutional power and call for mass demonstrations, it's "pressure."
Sam’s as sly as they get. A great man.
House Gang of Eight becomes Gang of Seven, now Gang of Five!
Carter has seemed a bit goofy on this, Johnson must have been pulled into it by some colleagues and/or business interests in his district, because I believe him to be a true-blue AMERICAN.
Good news if they have started awakening to reality.
(Hi! Thanks for posting.)
Kill amnesty.
Right about now Marco Rubio might want to leave the gang of five but all that will bring is people laughing at him.
