House Republicans passed their stopgap funding bill Friday to keep government open while terminating the new health care law, setting up a final showdown next week with Senate Democrats and President Obama who have firmly rejected that.
The 230-189 vote, which split almost exclusively along party lines, is the precursor to the big action next week, when the Senate is expected to strip out the health care provisions and send the bill back to the House where Republicans will have to decide whether they can accept it at that point.
All sides are racing a Sept. 30 deadline, which is when current government funding runs out. The new measure would fund the government through Dec. 15, essentially at last years levels, and would leave the budget sequesters in place.

It seems unfortunate that there does not appear to be something like a ‘vote of non-confidence’ in the US legislative system.
That said, Cameron didn’t call for a vote of ‘confidence’ when he wanted the UK to go to war in Syria and lost. THAT shoud have been a vote of ‘confidence’ in their government.
There are good and bad aspects to each type of government. There will always be politicians who ‘play’ the system to their advantage, like 0.00.
“Down in the mouth freepers start their it doesnt matter chants in 3,2,1,...”
Exactly. I know those puss* so-called Freepers. A bunch of defeatist surrender monkeys. It’s like they already accepted their fate, can’t fight back and end up bitching and whining on FR.
Yup, the betting pool is open to see the time and date that bonehead drops pants for the Obamadork.
If they carry this off, I will most certainly apologize.
Thanks.
Thanks, that *splains* some things :)
This is a bi-partisen vote. Not at all like the way obamacare was rammed through without one single republican vote. /s
I can’t watch TV concerning this. My blood pressure boils when so called “reporters” smirk when interviewing King or Cruz or Lee.
McCain and Graham say this will never pass the senate. My question to McCain and Graham is “How are you going to vote? Will you vote with the house because you KNOW it won’t pass? Or will you finally show which party you should be in?”
No.
EO is only internal within the executive branch. Granted, this 'Resident has pushed the envelope a bit, making executive orders that have effects outside the executive. However, spending money... so far... is not in this category. Indeed, since the lower house, the one that has elections every 2 years, closest to the people, has SOLE revenue origination power, they should do the same with AF1, white hut, and on and on.... just defund the executive. We could easily do without it for 3 years. Then, ramp back up when it has a real occupant.
I know the Democrats didn’t stop fighting pro life issues, I know Democrats haven’t stopped fighting gun rights. Agreed, you have to take a stand.
Shut’er down.
For ten years or so.
You’re probably right about the union thugs. They refused to talk to reporters. As is typical, this administration is crooked as hell and only a few people seem to care. If the unions end up getting a waiver and the people accept it, then what? It’ll be one of many laws that the democrats don’t like that won’t be enforced.
Hold the line! Reject the senate’s changes! Block this America-wrecking communist POS!!
So tell me, enlightened one, will it?
Yes. Tide is turning.
“Social Security”
I paid money into SS for 50 years. Are you saying that I should lose it only because YOU say so?
I want my money back.....with interest!
I would just love it for Boehner to dismiss Congress now.
“five RINOs abstained”?
First, only 3 Republicans did not cast a vote.
Second, one of the Republicans that did not vote was Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), who has a solidly conservative voting record but who has been at the hospital with her very sick baby for weeks now (she did fly down once for an important vote that was going to be close).
So, at most, you can say that two RINOs abstained, Hanna (NY) and Tim Murphy (PA). Hanna is reflexively pro-abortion, but usually votes conservative on economic issues such as Obamacare; Murphy is a social conservative who is more populist on economics (basically a close fit for voters in SW PA) but who has always opposed Obamacare. I don’t know why the two didn’t vote, but it is far likelier that they just happened to be absent at the time the vote was held than that their RINOism caused them to abstain.
They will NEVER give it back. The only way we will ever get anything back is to take it back. By force. Just like they do us.
To late.
