House Republicans survived a key test vote Thursday on their plan to keep the government running while trying to halt the health care law, defying a veto threat from President Obama and inching closer to a shutdown showdown with Senate Democrats. Top Republicans say their partys strategy is unlikely to succeed and not worth shutting down the government, but some rank-and-file lawmakers said they have to draw a line now and use the leverage of the spending bill to end the presidents signature achievement.

I wonder just how much money is being saved by NOT funding commie-care?
This year, two years, ten years worth of savings?

Portman of OH still hasn't pledged, for example. The phone numbers are listed there.
I owe him a call then!

Consider all the companies that are laying off people, such as the Cleveland Clinic that has to do so because of Obamacare increasing costs to the tune of about $300,000,000. Same for one or two of the major airlines for similar amounts of money. Think of all the people cut from full to part time. Think of all the people who had health insurance as part of their employment package who are losing it. Think of all the people that will have to pay the fine if they don't have their own health insurance at grossly inflated costs. Think of all the people in different states who are already paying grossly inflated costs for the same or less coverage than they had a few years ago.
As far as those who argue that the not funding covers over a very tiny portion (though that's not correct because Congress can refuse to fund the totality after the first year) and what difference would that make anyway. Well, the crankshaft sensor is, by weight and cost, almost nothing compared to the weight and cost of a new car, but without that tiny little thing the car is not going to go anywhere.
I think one of the amendments the States should try to pass is one that seizes all property and assets of those in the House and Senate and White House who made Obamacare law and put those assets into an interest-bearing account to refund all the increased costs, losses of jobs, etc, to those hurt by Obamacare.

Thus, always making it a crisis that will be blamed on the hapless R’s if dumbass doesn’t get everything he wants.
Praying that Ted Cruz can prove he’s up to the task of rallying Senators to this cause.

Thanks for the list! I just tweeted it out.
By the way, are there any petitions out there such as Grassfire or some other conservative website where we can sign it and with one click it goes to our Senators?
To: CSM
Well that plus they get to keep using the post-stimulus spending level as their budget baseline. As soon as they pass a new budget, that $1T a year comes out!
BINGO!

What difference does it make.
I mean, this is bad politics. Congress should pass individual stopgap spending bills to fund the military, VA, State Department, and other legitimate functions of government - and pass them one at a time in separate bills. Do not defund ObamaCare until all legitimate non-ObamaCare functions are funded at the desired level. Then, once its a question of shutting down just frivolous nonsense that is outside the scope of the Enumerated Powers, that is the time to face down Obama. If he wants to shut down HHS, that will get a big yawn from 80% of the country and 100% of productive members of society.

So the question in my mind is, IF a government shutdown happens, what would the effects be?
Most essential services will remain funded and functional, but which appendages would be affected first? Second? And as it continues, what other effects might we see?
I ask because my fellow Freepers follow this and keep me updated.

There is enough revenue collected monthly to pay the debt interest payments, the ssip payments and normal military operations. No “essential” services would be effected in the near or medium term.
However, if we keep killing the productive private sector with such a burdensome federal monster, this could change very well in the longer term, whether there is a budget, CR or nothing!

Actually, I think this is close to the truth. There were naysayers prior to the revolution, colonists loyal to the King. I see their relatives are busy mumbling and bowing to tyranny yet again.

You are right, but to add specificity to it, I think it was something along the lines of 25-30% of the populace supported the Revolution, 25-30% supported the king and almost 40% of the people simply didn’t care enough to think about making a decision.
