Harry can strip the defunding language, but if the reconciled bill fails a vote in the House, it’s back to square one.

I don’t know if we have that much spine in the House. Stay on the phones to your Representatives!

You have far more confidence in the GOP than I do.

I would wager that Reid will strip the language out and the revised bill will pass the Senate.

Then the RINOs that Boehner appoints to the Conference Committee will ignore the Senate's stripping of that language.

And, finally, the conference report will be approved on a voice vote (or unanimous consent) by the House (so the individual members can return to their districts and claim to have tried to defund Obamacare -- while they shout "aye" to the conference report).

Sorry, but I'm pretty cynical when it comes to politicians in DC. Of either party.

You raise a critical point, noprogs. Yes, the Senate strips out the defunding language. That pushes the proposed legislation to conference.
And, THAT is where the pubbies drop the ball. That is the very point at which they should be trumpeting to the world that the DHIMMICRAPS are the ones seeking the shutdown of the government (arguably not a bad idea, IMO).

“Harry can strip the defunding language, but if the reconciled bill fails a vote in the House, it’s back to square one.”

Exactly. Dirty Harry can vote the House resolution down, or strip it down, but unless both chambers agree on the same language, it’s dead in the water and nothing is funded. Then it’s a Mexican standoff where we will see who will blink first—Dirty Harry or Boehner.

Boehner: how’s the old spine doing these days? Are you willing to hold out and win or will you fold like you always do?

Mike Lee and Ted Cruz deserve our undying gratitude for forcing this issue. Though obviously they only have 14 on board with them in the House of Lords, without their defund efforts Boehner would never have been pressured to have a clean defund vote.
