...I think irish needs to go to another forum, period....
There’s the old spirit of open discussion and pursuit of the truth: banish the un-mutual non-conformist! I forgot for a moment that FR is dedicated to groupthink.
Not entirely. There are individuals who call for witch burnings every so often, but it's the same people over and over, and don't come close to representing a majority of Freepers.
I think there's also a high level of frustration that the GOP has devolved to being the tax collector for the welfare state, as Gingrich once memorably described Dole. There's also a hankering for the kind of historic clash that Frederick Wilhelmsen once ascribed to Christianity:
Christendom is honor and the fatherland and man with his back to the wall. It is the glory of lost causes and the splendor of certain defeat...
Will Ted Cruz turn out to be another Barry Goldwater? If a government shutdown ensues, we'll find out in 2014.
FR is a group of conservatives so naturally their basic philosophy is very similar. If you think that is group think, then it is as far as conservative principles are concerned. If you have a problem with conservative principles, then you are in the wrong place - that is the point I was making.
Ted Cruz fits the principles of conservatism, but you think he is a flash in the pan, out for his own good, and he will destruct and harm Republicans. Republicans in congress need to follow him instead of be “safe” like you want.
