Gingrich: Putin is a dictator and a thug
cnn.com ^ | September 12th, 2013 | Ashley Killough

Posted on 09/12/2013 9:31:16 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

Americans shouldn't let Vladimir Putin's opinions get under their skin because the Russian president is a one-time KGB officer whose primary interest is nationalism, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday.

"While we have to deal with him as the president of Russia, we don't have to respect his views. We don't have to respect his opinions," said Gingrich, co-host of CNN's "Crossfire."

"And frankly, we should laugh at him when he tries to lecture America about exceptionalism, because he ain't exceptional. He's just one more in a long tradition of dictators and thugs."

Putin rattled some Americans, including high-profile figures in Washington, when he argued in a New York Times op-ed against U.S. military intervention in Syria. In the final paragraph, he took issue with the idea of America being the proverbial shining city on a hill.

"It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation," he wrote. ....

The former House speaker pointed to Putin's history as a former intelligence officer for the KGB, where he worked from 1975-1992.

Gingrich also argued Putin was behind the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008 and the conflict in Chechnya has killed thousands.

He expressed doubt the opinion piece was even written by Putin, saying it was likely penned by a Washington speechwriters.

"You can go through and read that document and you could find at every single stage find that it's a lie," Gingrich said. "For us to take it seriously is a sign that we have forgotten who Vladimir Putin is."

Oh boy, you're lucky this is September 2013. If this was early 2012, you'd immediately be viciously attacked by legions of Newt supporters for that post. They'd accuse you of being either a Romney supporter or a troll from DU, and claim that Newt was doing a fantastic job leading the GOP until he was "removed" by a "RINO led coup".

But then again, if this was 1998 when Newt was ACTUALLY leading the GOP, Newt would be less popular here than John Boehner is now. ;-)

Probably most Newt supporters don’t care, since your guy Mittens lost anyway.

I don't think most are cheering Putin as much as they're delighted to see someone take on Obama and expose him..and do so successfully.

It's the difference between ‘a leader’ of a country (Putin) and a ‘community organizer’ who calls himself a world citizen, who has no love or allegiance to any country let alone this one...and pretends he's a leader.

Let's agree that Putin isn't a particularly savory character, nor a trustworthy one.

Let's also realize we have such a junior league incompetent for President that he ran like a scared, confused rabbit who had genuinely gone to the store for skittles, then was stalked by a thug who wanted to break his nose and hit his head on the sidewalk.

Dude believed in his own press so much, he didn't know what hit him. Our own MSM made him out to be such a great leader for the past five years, he believed his own narcissistic mirror for so long, when the thug came along he had no choice but to get beat up and have his skittles taken from him.

Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans............unfortunately he (Bambi) is responsible for humiliating all of us.

Thank you for proving my point that Newt supporters claim anyone who doesn’t love Newt is either from DU or a Romney supporter.

I forgot to mention, your attitude is very much like someone from DU. (You buy propaganda from the party leaders). And while I’m at it, thank you for helping us lose the election. (You didn’t mention that one.)

....” little likelihood that Putin wrote all of the actual words, but the value of the ‘Op-Ed as propaganda’ is high enough that it was given the same attention as a presidential address, meaning that he put some ideas in front of his major speechwriter, got a draft, sent back revisions, and then went over the final version with him/her in minute detail.”.....

That’s exactly right...Putin doesn’t talk at all like his Op-ed stated. I got no further than the first two sentences to see it wasn’t Him.

However, it’s clear that Val Putin is in control of the high stakes happenings at the moment.

The mans wealth alone, which is between 40 and 70 Billion is plenty to move around here and there.. and you can be sure he’s doing just that.

I also agree with some that when Kerry barked... “this is not a game”....the implication is that Putin likely does see it as that...what does he have to loose when Obama is handing him the cards to play.

Yes....and as much as I hate saying this...they don’t want to and have no intentions of doing so....we got that!

Washington is one big game of musical chairs...and they’re all making money as they climb into bed with the brothel that is there....because they play with all our money....and we let them.

The fools are US!

HA-HA, I was posting that picture here through the fall till the orders came out ~ December, and I did get responses like that up till then. Then once he got beat it was OK again.

Newt beat Obama on the shutdown
Newt balanced the government
Newt is soooo smart

The best way to describe Newt is 'big head'. He just loves his own voice.

Newt may be pretty vain, but he was a worthy candidate and would have been much better than Romney, whom everyone settled on in the end even though he was fundamentally the same as Obama. In fact, Romney probably would have damaged our party long term had he won. But, such is the lack of discernment on the part of conservatives that they sucked up to Santorum, whose biggest talking point was about how courageous he was (no ideas), with “pornagraphy” as the top of the list on his issues page on his campaign site, and then later to Mittens. And now, today, most are pimping for Putin, even though he is a thug, dictator and killer who is a mortal danger to our entire country.

In a way, it’s guys like these Putin-cheerleaders who really make me think that we deserve Obama. God punishes a bad people with bad rulers.

Obama 2012 to the team:

OK team, listen closely. I want you to get the public focused on Bain Capital.
We need to make Romney out to be Simon Legree and a Scrooge rolled into one.
Valerie, we need to get Romney recorded at a fundraiser insulting the voters. Pass the message to Holder. ”

Newt was no worthy candidate .
Newt was just another loser who resigned in disgrace.
He never could control his mouth, he helped nuke his own side during the 2005 to 2006 shutdown with his stupid pointless statements.
In 2012 Newt was the last hope against Romney, and Palin was the first hope but she wasn't running. These were like waiting for the tooth fairy to make you win the lottery, not happening.

That’s an old lie by the Mittens boot lickers. You can keep at it if you want, but I’m quite bored with it. Thanks for Obama, by the way.

Its an absolute fact that has NOTHING to do with Romney.

Newt resigned as Speaker back in 1998 after that election loss and his wife stuff came out at exactly the wrong time, it had nothing to do with Romney.

Newts chances of beating Obama were no better than Romneys were, He had been an entertainer for the 13 years after resigning before that primary run.

if Newt had not stayed in so long then Santorum would have had a chance. Newt made sure Mitt was the nominee.
