Enrollment appears to be nosediving in a Michigan school district where several teachers publicly supported a former colleague who admitted having sex with a middle school student.
The student body count in the West Branch-Rose City district, in northeast Michigan is down unofficially some 87 students following a tumultuous summer in which angry parents blasted seven teachers for writing letters in support of former teacher Neal Erickson. The letters urged a judge to be lenient in sentencing Erickson, who admitted to sexual misconduct with an underage, male student from 2006 to 2009. When the school board declined to take action against the teachers, many parents vowed to pull their kids out of the public schools, which have a total enrollment of just over 2,000.
I cant speculate as to why the students have left, but there were certainly parents who vocalized that they were pulling their children out of school because of the teachers support, West Branch-Rose City School Superintendent Daniel Cwayna told FoxNews.com. We addressed the issue as best we could without infringing upon the teachers first amendment rights. Theres only so much we can do.
Lower enrollment will cost the district under the state's funding formula. And it could get even worse, if other parents simply opt to keep their kids home on Sept. 25, when the official headcount is carried out. The school district stands to lose as much as $600,000 in state funding.

Moral turpitude is a legal concept in the United States and some other countries that refers to "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals. This term appears in U.S. immigration law beginning in the 19th century.
The concept of "moral turpitude" might escape precise definition, but it has been described as an "act of baseness, vileness, or depravity in the private and social duties which a man owes to his fellowmen, or to society in general, contrary to the accepted and customary rule of right and duty between man and man.

Yep, it’s hard to fathom that people accept this behavior. A century or probably less than a century ago a teacher caught performing these acts on a student may have well been hung from the highest tree and made an example of.
When I was in grade school (back in the dark ages), a teacher caught going into a bar, would lose their job, much less had sex with a student and the student of the same sex would have been unimaginable!
Fifty-sixty years ago, they would've "disappeared"...into an unmarked grave in somebody's wheat field.
It’s all due to the fact that teachers aren’t paid enough!

Those parents need to unelect that school board for one thing, then fire those teachers for another
Get your kid out
Unelect the school board
The fire those teachers
Let us declare Sept 25 a federal Republican Skip School Holiday then
haha
Firing them does not violate their freedom of speech, they can extoll the virtue of pedophilia all they want in the unemployment office.
BUMP
It should be considered a capitol crime
“...none of the people defending the Pedophile will lose their jobs.”
If enough students depart, so will their jobs.
So many public employees seem to have forgotten THEY WORK FOR US.
They need some big reminders. I hope this is one of them.
I was commenting to the fact that students have been muzzled by schools and teachers while the teachers and administrators get to say whatever they want with no restrictions. I agree these people supporting this pedophile should be prohibited from ever working with children again.

I have no idea how this will play out. Will enough parents keep their kids out of school to force the governor to intervene? Will parents be forced by the state to send their kids to be taught by the pedophile defenders? Will the teachers be fired, and sue the school district into bankruptcy?
They should have a recall election for that school board, the new board can fire the perv teachers
It sounds like the board needs financial cover for firing the teachers. I think the state governor should provide that financial cover.
those so called teachers keep referring to this pedophile as having mad “a” mistake....like raping a kid over 3 yrs is “a” mistake....you know, like forgetting to put your turn signal on....
Gotta say it's encouraging that the parents are actually reacting. This needs to happen more.
