Some Pittsburghers are being ticketed or warned not to park in their own driveways under an obscure ordinance that requires them to pay $225 for a permit if they wish to park within 30 feet of a street.
Some residents have complained about the tickets and warnings, which are issued by the city’s Bureau of Building Inspection.

Governments still behaving as tumors that need to be subsidized by the host populace/commerce, eh? Everything is “money, money, more money” to them. That is called extortion. They would get their pound of flesh if they would stop raising the cost of providing it to them.
Regarding cars in the driveway — Definitely must be a local “tell” where you are. Around here it is common to see a car or two in the driveway, even in multi-million dollar communities of homes with 3 or 4+ bay garages. Of which there are many. Nobody would think a thing of it.
....and this is why one should not support government-loving busybodies, regardless of party or level of government.

At what point does a citizen OWN their own land?
They pay for, they maintain it, they pay taxes on it (which I believe is immoral, but that’s another subject) and they can’t park a vehicle that they bought, paid for, registered, insured (by law), and paid taxes for in their own driveway?
What’s the point of “owning” anything? No personal choice. No rights.
How can you even think this way? How can you rationalize this? Where does it stop?

I have lived in Michigan, Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, Maryland and New York.
I have NEVER heard anyone upset about people parking their own vehicles in their own driveway. Until your post, I had never imagined that this could even be an issue.

I’m glad that I don’t live in the city. Too many people, too close together is a recipe for insanity.
yes, it could very well be a regional thing.
Very few homes here were built before 1950, and nearly every home here has a 2 car garage.
In my experience (based on the area in which I live and work). The sure signs that your neighborhood is on the decline are: (in ruff order of decline)
- cars parked in the driveway and or in front of a house overnight (especially older beat up cars) usually because they have filled their 2 car garage with junk. (first sign of decline)
- lawns no longer being maintained and flowers are no where to be seen.
- joggers (especially women joggers) and women with strollers disappear.
- former owner occupied homes now being rented out, homes being converted into duplexes, lots of for rent signs, ect.
- dilapidated sidewalks and parks
- Roaming bands of teenagers at night
- vacant homes, and especially homes that have been tagged by the city (final stage of death)
some of you might be offended by my observations, but this information can save new homebuyers from making a costly mistake that can destroy their lives.

I live in a neighborhood were the homes are between 900,000 - 2 million. Everybody parks in their driveway or on the street, even those who have garages. Somehow we are not on the decline, in fact the price of real estate is going up.
I have never lived where cars are not parked in the driveway or on the street.

I haven't either. I don't at all mind having cars parked in the driveway. I'm fine with cars parked on the street in front of their owner's property. I do mind when people park in my driveway or on my yard, or in front of the house, especially if they run over my plants.
I took the time to point this out because many first time home buyers don't know what to look out for. They buy a home in what “used” to be a good area only to find out “after” they bought, that the neighborhood is in decline along with the property values. Which can decimate a young couple financially.
I have been buyer fixer upper’s and flipping them my whole life and have learned to immediately detect the signs of a declining neighborhood.
(note) if you live in an area with historical homes that have no garages or only single car detached garages then this probably doesn't apply to you. If you live in an area with million dollar mansions, this doesn't apply to you. This is information that applies mostly to suburban neighborhoods built after 1950.
On all the other points, I would probably concur!
Secondly, I am a realtor and I know what the neighbors property can do to someone else’s value.
Lastly, I live in a residentially zoned neighborhood. Take your commercial trucks, boats, trailers, RV’s out of here. I will call every day until they are removed.
It’s the law. Don’t like; change the law or move.

I have never lived in a neighborhood where cars parked outside the homes (with garages) was considered a bad sign, however...
I have seen the types of cookie-cutter developments where it is verboten to leave cars out. Maybe it’s in the HOA covenants or what have you.
These brand spanking new neighborhoods would always creep me out. Perfect (contracted?) landscaping, no vehicles trashing the appearance, no open cluttered-up garages (i.e. workshops). IOW little if any signs of life, save for the lawns and trees.
The places may have been brand new and occupied, but they looked dead. Green graves was the impression I got. Well to each their own. Maybe just popular with busy working spouses who spend little time at home anyway.
So that may be a regional thing also, but if a first sign of such a neighborhood’s decline is that the cars are left out, then I would suspect that the neighborhood was dead from birth. The visible cars not being the red flag, but the initial lack thereof.

A real sign of decline is when the greenies move in and decide that the town doesn’t have enough green spaces [while they let their own yards die in order to save water and mother earth]. :(
We had that problem in our old house, but we moved in 2002 to a much more conservative town. Thank goodness.
The greenie reality detachment was too bizarre for words. Basically wanted the townsfolk to pony up for green medians and other types of public landscaping projects to make him feel good about himself, but put zero time in on his own yard. The neighborhood concept meant nothing, as if "caring" = political activism completely divorced from day-to-day reality, the responsibilities of private property ownership and normal respectful attitudes toward the real people next door and along the street.
Want more greenery in the town? How about start with your own ****ing lawn. LOL but egads...
I will tell you a sign in our old city neighborhood.
One family homes turned into bed and breakfasts. People could not afford the home and turned it into a business to buy into the neighborhood. When that happened the houses started getting cut into apartments. Instead of families that could run a 5 bedroom intown house there were people who could afford a two bed room apartment.
The five bedrooms were being built in the burbs/rurals and we all moved there.
