The Syrian opposition can’t use their CWs anymore and blame it on Assad.
Honestly, it makes Syria’s life easier all around.
Kerry “reccommends” it then Russia agrees then Syria agrees. Obama was not only given an out, he just avoided war. He will come out the hero. We can’t win with this guy. I don’t think we’re supposed to. Will this be the beginning of a 3 1/2 year peace?
This might get obama’s * out of the wringer, but there remains his Arab Spring commitment. He, along with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, wants to advance the Mo Bro in the region. Getting off Assad’s case right now doesn’t fit in the plan.
This is global governance at work, with the Syrians acting as foils to establish the precedent to get us to disarm unilaterally.
I must be missing something. All the talk on here is how Putin outsmarted obama. The article says Kerry came up with the idea first. obama will get credit for this.
Give a few shells to some blue helmets in a warehouse in Damascus.
That’ll keep 0bambi at bay.
LOL!
Well well. Can’t wait to hear the feckless/dangerous administration spin this one. And how will they explain this to their Saudi masters???
We have no leadership; it shows. They are getting slapped all over the international stage. Stupid voters.
We can send in Hans Blix to keep Asad honest.
In a couple of the months the nightly news will be showing footage of a warehouse with a bunch of guys standing around in lab coats and hardhats, some with “UN” on the side, watching pallets of 55 gallon drums being unloaded off a truck and [presumbably] sent to an incenerator.
Everyone will talk glowingly of how much safer the world is.
Meanwhile back in Syria ...
Wasn’t there something about this ‘deal’ in last week’s postings?
Brilliant move by Putin. He looks like the peacemaker and also comes out tough given his comments as fully supporting the Syrians if the US bombs. Assad has nothing to lose by surrendering the weapons as Russia continues to be his ally and it’s consistent with his position his army didn’t commit the attack. It unfortunately saves face for Obama as you can be sure the press will play this as Obama’s notion borne from the discussions at the G20 with Putin.
It would be interesting if Syria tied their request for international control of chemical weapons to international assistance defeating the al-Qaeda affiliated rebels.
And when the UN compound is stormed/looted by Al-Qaeda rebels, Obama will blame:
- the International Community for not securing them properly
- Congressional Republicans for not authorizing the original strike he wanted.
Putin is making Zero’s experience as a community organizer really show.
I am confused?
Since when is diplomacy like this handled through public media channels?
