The last thing US President Barack Obama did during his trip to Russia for the G20 summit was meet Friday with a group of Russian human rights activists, including members of the gay community, in an encounter that attendants described as symbolic, and a signal to the Russian authorities.
The group of nine activists who met with Obama for a little over an hour included three gay activists from LGBT organizations that have not traditionally been invited to take part in meetings with visiting senior US officials.
Russia passed a controversial new law earlier this year banning the “promotion of non-traditional relationships to minors.” The Kremlin maintains that the law does not prevent adults from making their own sexual choices,

2. Note that Russia is NOT constraining the activities of consenting adults -- the law bans promoting "non-traditional relationships" to minors. And this seems to upset the gay community and Obama... In the US any type of sex with minors is illegal.

It seems like a reasonable policy and law for Russia to adopt, especially considering the demographic death spiral they are in with a birth rate well below zero, and plenty of neighbors who would be happy to populate/seize the empty land once Russia can no longer defend their borders.
Anything they can do to encourage the formation of traditional families that produce Russian children is probably a good move.
