President Barack Obama said today in a speech delivered in the White House Rose Garden that he is asking Congress to vote to authorize him to use military force in Syria—while insisting he does not need congressional authorization to order the U.S. military to commit acts of war in that Middle Eastern country.
“I have long believed that our power is rooted not just in our military might, but in our example as a government of the people, by the people and for the people,” Obama said at one point in the speech. “That’s why I have made a second decision: I will seek authorization for the use of force from the American people’s representatives in Congress.”
A moment later, Obama insisted that he did not need the authorization of Congress to unilaterally order the military to use force in Syria. Obama did not explain from what source he believed he derived the authority to order U.S. military action against Syria if not from a resolution constitutionally approved by the U.S. Congress. Obama quipped to his fraternal socialist comrades, “I still reject and despise the rule of law - but this is a convenient way to blame Republicans for the outcome, whatever it may be.”
When it comes to a vote, all of the Republicans should vote “Present.” Leave it up to the Democrats to decide. If they vote to authorize military action by Obama, they’ll have a tough time explaining their vote to the American people. If they vote not to authorize military action, it will be fun to see how Obama reacts to this betrayal by his own party.

Stupid Little Me...still can’t figure out what purpose would be served by our launching war on Syria
if we knew the purpose he has in mind, we could then maybe assess whether it is a good one...and whether any new war he started might achieve that purpose
As it is, we are left in the dark on both accounts.
We’ve been given no purpose for a new war ...and thus, no way of determining our chances of achieving it.
Unless I’ve missed something, I say (and I am NOT an isolationist) that we should definitely say NO to this proposed new war.
ps: President O has launched several wars or attacks, and.or subverted several foreign nations already. None of those activities seems to have done much other than advance the cause of the worst, most dangerous forms of Islamic “radicalism.” Time for more golfing....
OPENING SCENE:
Curtains open and lights up. A stage, with Elmer Fudd stage right and Daffy Duck stage left, with a pedestal microphone in front and centre stage.
A partial sign, reading "pRes__deNT announcement" hangs above them both. Daffy is obviously agitated looking with a fierce glare out into the open air and clenched fists extended straight down on both sides of him and trembling, while Elmer has his shotgun drooping and one finger raised just in front of his lips with a confused expression and some smoke rising from the end of the shotgun barrels. It is obvious where the holes in the signs have come from. Elmer has a sign hanging from his neck that reads: "Clueless Media", and Daffy has one that reads: "I WON.".
After a moment, Daffy abruptly turns to his right and begins leading a still-confused Elmer away, stage right.
ELMER, trembly-voiced: "Moweh bweefings?"
DAFFY, clenched jaws and fists: "More briefings."
Curtain close, lights down. End of current Act.
If Congress refuses to go to war and he does any way. I hope they have the character to impeach his sorry butt.

Congress comes back September 9. I suspect that BO is going to ask Boner and The Dim Bulb From Searchlight to vote on authorization for military action against Syria first, then, win or lose, he’ll attack on September 11 so nobody will bother to note that it’s the anniversary of Benghazi.
In a sane world nobama would be serving a life sentence for his crimes agai st Free America.
