CBS DC – NAACP President Ben Jealous says he plans to turn over petitions with more than 1.7 million signatures calling on the Department of Justice to pursue charges against George Zimmerman for violating Trayvon Martin’s civil rights.

Speaking only as a former Prosecutor and not as a Conservative, I just don’t see there is enough here for a civil rights violation. And I would have charged Zimmerman with manslaughter.

Why would you want to do that when it only “legitimizes” what the NAACPEPE is trying to do. To not confront them, simply makes them look like the looser a$$holes that they are! NAACPEPE has a defined and limited “audience.” Sane people have written them off a long time ago.

If I were in charge, I’d split that 1.7M-name list into 2,000 name lists, and use them as the passenger manifests for 850 one-way cruises from Miami to Monrovia.
How many signatures could be get to pressure the DOJ to go after the Reverend Al? Is signature count the deciding factor?

Oh, the radio just reported from Spokane cops that “robbery was the motive” for the attack on the 88 y.o. vet, and that “race did not have anything to do with it”. Really. Really?
So, if they had come after a cash heavy mex it wouldn’t either? How do they conclude this, esp. since again the twitter feed expands on the motive.

What new charges against GZ does this raucous gang want the DOJ to pursue? A blood-thirsty mob wants “legal” action from a lawless administration. Is there any wonder why guns sales are so brisk?
They forget the fifth amendment.
That would be the one dealing with double jeopardy.
The facts are now known.
Nothing substantially new has been introduced that was unknown when the Sanford PD first investigated the death that night, and a decision was made that no charges needed to be filed against Zimmerman, due to very clear evidence of simple self-defense.
It's not as if Zimmerman denied killing Martin, or ran from the scene, or altered evidence in the altercation.
The information about Martin that eventually came out, supported, but did not materially matter, to the evidence, and the reason Zimmerman was not charged with a crime in the first place. I'm really curious as to why you, as a prosecutor, would have charged Zimmerman with any crime at all, since you have access to all the facts.
