I have zero guilt about slavery as well. My family, like that of many Caucasians, did not even ARRIVE in this country until the 20th century, and then to the Northeast. They worked the crap jobs immigrants usually do, and each succeeding generation did a little bit better - though I am not sure that will be true for my children and their children. I am tired of racists acting like every white person is the direct descendent of an evil plantation owner and born with a silver spoon in his mouth. My son has said as much when asked if he doesn’t feel guilty for 400 years of slavery. He responds as I have written, that he had nothing to do with it, and suddenly the accuser, shocked, goes silent like the cat has his tongue. The racists are used to cowing people and are unprepared for push-back.
I have zero guilt also, but for a different reason.
My Gr Gr Grandfather fought in the Civil War.
And being from the “wild west” area of upstate NY (pretty wild at the time!), he wore a blue uniform.
