Sen. Rand Paul outlined his fears about President Obamas health care law on The Daily Show late Monday, arguing dinosaur syndrome has prevented well-intentioned authors of the law from crafting effective reforms.
Im afraid its going to be unaffordable and thats the real problem, the Kentucky Republican told John Oliver, interim host of The Daily Show in Jon Stewarts absence. Im afraid that everyone will pay a lot more for insurance. And I think precisely the people it was intended to help it may well hurt, because they may not be able to afford it.
Mr. Paul, a potential presidential contender in 2016, said Mr. Obama mandated insurance providers to cover so many things that costs will inevitably rise. While the authors of the law might have had good intentions, he said, the law will have negative consequences.
I call it the dinosaur syndrome, Mr. Paul said. We have a lot of politicians who have really small brains and really big hearts. And they want to do whats right, but I dont think its going to work.
Mr. Paul had a little fun with the temporary host, noting they have special coverage for mental illnesses in Mr. Olivers home country of Great Britain.

I know where you're coming from, and I agree, but I think what he is saying is an effective and justified by the facts way to attack Obamacare. Further, he is reacting as a physician, and this is understandable.
For a doc it is very hard to come out against Obamacare without feeling defensive about appearing self-serving. Physicians have been mischaracterized a lot in the media, and if you attack Obamacare, the liberal pushback is that you are just trying to protect your income.
The fact is that despite the enormous burdens and huge changes that have been imposed on medicine in the US by this administration, costs are going up. So what has been accomplished?
No Rand knows the problem. The problem is yellow republicrats. Million are going to leave this party if these yellow bellies allow AMNESTY in the House. I assure you.
Well the liberals in congress maybe, not all liberals, some are big hearted people who think we need to just take care of everyone, everyone needs to be saved.
But I just read an article on yahoo about how drivers of BMW’s and the Prius are the worst offending drivers. They mention because they are rich that they tend to be more snotty and while that might be true of BMW drivers, I couldn’t help but think the article should have mentioned that Prius drivers are typical liberals, they vote and talk like they are for all these great causes but when it comes down to it, it’s all for show, the proof in the pudding is that they are really scumbags and don’t really care about anyone but themselves.
Rock 'em, Rand.
Obamacare authors have small brains?
No they don’t.
They’re outfoxing all you idiots up on Capitol Hill.
Rand is correct.
Republicans MUST stop saying things like Democrats have “big hearts” and “good intentions”. Voters cannot figure out on their own that all these laws are about personal aggrandizement and power. Bob
Unfort. for Rand, he was being TOO generous with his ‘big heart’ comment; it’s easy to be ‘big heart’...with OPM (other peoples’ $$).
It’s already stated gov’t has NO authority in this area, let alone the pretzel logic to tax an INACTION (1st time in the U.S.?).
Now, as to your point, as a doc. they have EVERY right to be to protective. EVERYTHING gov’t does in their area costs them more $$ and time (medicare keeps reducing % payed, if they pay @ all, now THIS?).
If there is one sure-fire way to kill this would be for the docs to band up and sue on the 5th (taking clause) and the 13th Amendments. Gov’t has effectively said you WILL work for $XYZ.
We have a winner.
If anything government is the marketplace referee not a player coach.
The authors thought he said trains ...
And, they told God ...
We'd like to be the caboose ...
I’ll disagree with the Good Senator on one part of what he said: Their intentions/hearts were most assuredly NOT good when they designed this. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing - getting control of the population through the medical system. It’s a Damocles sword that they can - and will - use arbitrarily and at will against any and all who dare to stand up.
I’ve been listening to the “Ronald Reagan: In His Own Words” CD set for the last few days. A collection of his radio broadcasts and political commentary from the 60s and 70s.
This socialist healthcare scheme was being pushed by the same worthless POSs even back then, and Reagan was warning about it. As a matter of fact, almost ALL of the points he brings up in those broadcasts was being pushed back then as well.
THEY never gave up... Our side - if you could call the GOP-e “our side” - hasn’t fought back. Reagan was the only one who held the line.
And here we are now.
And still we keep voting for the lesser of two evils; but it’s still evil.
Reagan was an amazing man. Such a contrast between what a real President and Statesman is/should be - versus what we now have.
He’s being gracious and classy... a lot more gracious and classy than I’d be.
The real question he should have asked is - If this law is so great ans so beneficial, why is every Federal and Congressional pogue screaming to be exempted from it? Why do they get to keep their current healthcare plans, while the rest of us will eventually be forced into the Single Payer Deathcare system - which is what the democrats wanted all along?
They KNEW it would collapse the system and bring about SIngle Payer.
So to my mind, the time for being gracious, classy, generous - whatever - is long gone.
I like Senator Paul, I think he’s a good man and an American through and through, my only beef is that it’s long past time to play politesse and nicey-nice with these bastards.
They’re f***ing us all over - libs, conservatives, and all points in between and no one takes them to task over it publicaly when they have a bully pulpit.
” Ill disagree with the Good Senator on one part of what he said: Their intentions/hearts were most assuredly NOT good when they designed this. The IRS scandal proved to us that the goal of the Obama administration is to put healthcare under the CONTROL of EVERY federal agency. This should be obvious to most of us.
“...This should be obvious to most of us...”
“Should be” is a long way from “is”, my good brother SJB...
Many people who aren’t politically tuned in have zero clue as to what is happening to us. 15 second sound bites on the 6 o’clock news, delivered by a vapid, vacuous politically-correct bimbo trained to smile at the appropriate times, frown disparagingly at ANYTHING critical of Dear Leader, and laugh at whatever inane joke the equally frivolous co-host says - this is what passes for news, and what a lot of people hear every day.
Liberal, conservative, and all points in between... we are ALL being screwed over by this intrusion into our lives.
Sometimes I expect too much of people.....then I wake up, and drink coffee : )
I keep my expectations really low, brother... that way I’m ALWAYS f**ing amazed, by everything...:^)
Smart way of thinking.
