Go look at line 8a of the 1040EZ. You can get EITC on that form. I’ve been to WM and other box stores where H&R Block, Jackson/Hewitt, and other tax companies are grabbing EITC filers consistently during tax time. Most of them print out the 1040EZ for the EITC filers.

Sigh ... yes, you can claim the EITC on the 1040EZ but you miss the point. The big bucks in EITC come with children. The dollar value you can claim on the EZ is fairly small in comparison ($475 is the max, MFJ, income between 6,260 and 13,000). If you have kids, you don't use the EZ since you can't claim them on that form.

And, incidentally, without kids the amount of Food Stamp allowance is also fairly limited. Some poor shlub working part time minimum wage thus falling within the EITC range, generally will qualify for - wait for it - $16 in food stamps a month.

With 3 kids, begged or borrowed, you can claim up to $5,891 on the more complex forms, not to mention the refundable CTC worth another $3,000. So you are wasting your time harping about the 1040EZ - that's not where the big money (and big fraud) is found.

But by all means, you have had your taxes done and that's as good as sleeping at a Holiday Inn Express, right?
