Fox News just aired a preview of an hour long special tonight on the growth of food stamp usage under Obama.
The preview was reported by John Roberts who filmed and interviewed a 29-year-old California beach bum in La Jolla who gets $200 per month in food stamp benefits with no work requirement.
I’m from the town next door, Pacific Beach.
I’ll wager the bum is successfully pan handling.
Thousands do.
No surprise, I see people all the time buying junk food, Perrier water, crab legs, big steaks etc. pay for the food with EBT and then pay cash for booze and cigarettes.
I don’t mind food stamps for people who really need them and the working poor with children should get priority. Even then there should be some firm restrictions.
Hell even the disabled can do many modern jobs from home on computer. (Course we need a working economy first)
Why do I have the idea that you missed the point of the story?
How the heck does he get that? I have paid my taxes since age 16. I am unemployed (not by choice), no safety-net benefits, and I eat a 17 cent pack of noodles a day. I am two decades too young for Social Security and too old (also not being bilingual anymore, “not a native Spanish speaker and “unqualified” (due to raising my own kids, married for more than two decades but now divorced and all my volunteering during that time accounts for Nothing, along with my degrees). I thought that the safety nets we pay taxes for were just that, for Citizens in need for a small amount of time. If I crossed over the border or were a “gay” refugee, the Politicians would open the wallets of the taxpayers.
Probably. I used to go there a lot on business, I prefer my little town in the mountains of NM.
I had no idea John Roberts had moved to FOX.
Can't believe he's reporting on stuff like this now. Good for him.
It’s my “home,” but I’m very happy in my little Mississippi town.
My “ancestral” home is a tiny place on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Mom lives on the water in an old farmhouse.
I had another brush with an EBT user today. I was in line behind her at the Dollar General, as she piled junk food on the counter. She even asked the clerk if Monster Energy Drinks were “covered” by food stamps.
When the clerk gave her the total (upwards of $55), she handed her the card and attempted to put in the PIN number. She kept getting an error message. Then she dialed someone on her iPhone; eventually the card went through.
Some guy came in to meet her and she said she had tried to call so-and-so to see if she remembered the PIN. It apparently WASN’T EVEN HER CARD!!
Then the two of them got into a car with out-of-state plates and drove off.
It stinks. What bothers me more is my grand childrens lives being mortgaged so international bankers can borrow our wealth at the Fed window for an effective 0% to gamble in the derivatives casino and get rent from the entire world. Surfer boy needs a spanking. The bankers need The Committee of Public Safety.
Wanna bet this POS votes democrat?
“Why do I have the idea that you missed the point of the story?”
I’m sure a lot of other people did, too. I grew up in LA before moving to Sacramento and know that $200 is not a lot of money down there. The thought that someone was ‘living it up’ on that money is so absurdly false that I couldn’t even see the rest of the story.
La Jolla has cheap eating places also, for instance Jack in the Box, McDonalds, Subway.
I doubt this worthless moron ever voted for anyone in his life. Just a another parasite living off the system. In the minds of these slugs, money just exists for them to take.
"And the meek shall inherit the earth."
He was buying sushi and lobster. Showed him at the grocery store. And he has no job, is 29 and doesn’t want a job. He wants to surf. Lives with friends and family members. The point is we taxpayers are giving him $200 a month to buy lobster. Are you okay with that???
If you had such a difficult time understanding the point of this story, may I recommend a journalism course in a nearby community college. It could do wonders to help you understand the larger message being carried in a news story, and it could even help you get unstuck when something rather meaningless grabs your attention.
But until then, I'll let you in on the larger point of the story: YOU (assuming you're a taxpayer) ARE PAYING FOR THIS GUY TO GOOF OFF DAY AFTER DAY AFTER DAY. And since this story was a tease for a special later on tonight on FOX News, you're likely to learn that you're probably paying for millions more like him who would rather not sit in front of the camera to show the world what freeloaders they are.
Such a pity to get so hung up on such a small detail. I believe that's known as straining at the gnat and swallowing the camel. LOL!!
