Putin Laughs At Saudi Offer To Betray Syria In Exchange For "Huge" Arms Deal
ZeroHedge ^ | 2013, 8 August | Tyler Durden

One of the more surprising news to hit the tape yesterday was that Saudi Arabia, exasperated and desperate by Russia's relentless support of the Syrian regime and refusal to abandon the Syrian army thus facilitating the Qatari plan to pass its natgas pipeline to Europe under Syria, had quietly approached Putin with a proposal for a huge arms deal and a pledge to boost Russian influence in the Arab world if only Putin would abandon Syria's Assad. It will hardly come as a surprise to anyone that in the aftermath of yesterday's dilettante mistake by Obama which alienated Putin from the western world (and its subservient states such as Saudi Arabia of course), has just said no. It will certainly come as no surprise because as we explained previously, the biggest loser from Russia abandoning Syria (something we predicted would never happen) would be none other than Russia's most important company - Gazprom - which would lose its energy grip over Europe as Qatar replaced it as a nat gas vendor. What is shocking in all of this is that Saudi Arabia was so stupid and/or naive to believe that Putin would voluntarily cede geopolitical control over the insolvent Eurozone, where he has more influence according to some than even the ECB, or Bernanke. Especially in the winter.

SNIP

What is most interesting here is that Russia is now actively stretching its wings against not only the US but its chief foreign allies abroad. Which only means that a confrontation with Israel, directly over Iran or otherwise, is only a matter of time.

From JPost:

The IDF closed Eilat Airport to incoming flights on Thursday evening following a security assessment.

The closure was not due to any ongoing security incident. The airport was to remain open for northbound departing flights, Israel Radio said.

The IDF order came as Egypt's army said on Wednesday that it had killed 60 militants in the lawless Sinai Peninsula in the month since the military overthrew Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.

Citing widening "terrorist operations" in "recent times", the army said it was conducting an intensified campaign in Sinai in coordination with the interior ministry to crack down on militants that "threaten Egyptian national security." Militants based mainly in North Sinai near Israel's border have escalated attacks on security forces and other targets since July 3, when the army deposed Morsi and installed a new government.

[Israeli] Defense Minister Ya’alon Moshe said last month that Egypt has inserted additional military forces – including assault helicopters – into Sinai after receiving permission from Israel, in line with the peace treaty between the two countries.

No wonder Obama, the RINOs, the EU and others are doing their best to get rid of the new Egyptian leaders. Killing 60 terrorists (Beduins and Palis) in one month. And they didn't even use drones. Barbaric! /s

A leader looking out for his country’s interests. I wish we had one of those. Instead we have an Indonesian terrorist.

Me too...lol..at least for now.
You know it is coming though. An Israel plane will probably be the first attack on the ‘west’ by the barbarians and will be done with the surface to air weapons that our stupid malicious president gave them. Then all hell is going to break lose. Prayers for Israel!

Yep. Scary times ahead for both our countries in the future. The unholy alliance between the left and the Islamists is going to cause very deadly blowback for both countries I fear.

Ideologue he isn’t.
He certainly has no abstract political philosophy.
Neither does the current Russian state.

Its all back to national interests and “Great Power” politics, complete with colonial possessions and spheres of influence. Its like being in 1880 all over again.

Sad state of affairs when Putin appears to be the smartest international politician around.

Putin was always smart , bit of a thug but smart. Smartest, that’s a function of our leadership
