I get a bit nervous when an organization with a focused mission that I feel strongly about starts expanding into other areas, regardless of overlap or my view on those issues.
It often isn’t much later before a few mgmt changes happen and insufficiently sentient ‘consultants’ start showing up explaining how to ‘expand your donor reach.’
Defending the unborn could soon morph into ‘giving children 3 meals a day in school’ or some other drift and you end up with another vague feel-good institution.
I understand where you’re coming from, but this unwarranted attack was engineered by Rob Portman. Its good that he’s been fully exposed as a traitor.
I think the National organization did the right thing regardless of why they did it. Maybe they should have warned the Cleveland chapter first and given them time to back down from their mission statement expansion, but I don't know enough of the details to know if they were already given sufficient warning.
From the comments on this thread I suppose I should hate the NRA for saying nothing specific about gay "marriage". Maybe the NRA is a bunch of fag-lovers too! /sarc
brilliant strategy. Because ONE journalist claims
“NRTL chose to support Senator Rob Portman’s newly expressed support of gay marriage “
1. IT MUST be true
2. We need to splinter off everybody from every organization that doesn’t take a position on every issue.
3. We need a new mini-organization that is explicitly pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-2nd amendment and anti-Republican! No exceptions.
After the NRA is extinguished, let’s start on NOM, National Org for Marriage which has been known to support pro-choice candidates.
And anybody who supported Mitt Romney ever is dead to me! Forever!
I could understand that POV.
The NRTL could have ignored what the Cleveland chapter did or said that mission statements of local chapters don't necessary reflection the views of the NRTL. But, when the NRTL committee kicks out a chapter for opposing same-sex marriage, the only conclusion that can be drawn is the NRTL is in favor of same-sex marriage.
