I would argue that advocacy of gay marriage, abortion and polygamy is libertine. ie, tending to the removal of moral restraints on society, places one firmly on the libertine side.

I care very little for ‘libertarians’ as a group.

I do care about Chickensoup though. What does he believe? Does he support all these things?

Not true at all, it is the libertarian position on personal relationships and personal freedom.

Why do you think that they are libertarians instead of conservatives?

I think the point is we need to ask on a Federal level, "what would the Constitution say?" I think on almost all social matters, the Constitution would be silent and leave such things up to the States (as long as it does not violate the Constitution itself) or the people themselves. Take same-sex marriage, under our system you'd have States that would allow it legally, not allow it legally or just leave it to the people and not get involved. That's the ideal situation.
