23 Ways of Poking Fun at Libertarians
Townhall.com ^ | August 3, 2013 | Daniel J. Mitchell

Posted on 08/03/2013 6:35:31 AM PDT by Kaslin

The very first bit of anti-libertarian humor I ever posted was this clever video about the anarcho-capitalist paradise of Somalia.

I then shared two cartoons, one on libertarian ice fishing and the other showinglibertarian lifeguards.

That was followed by a very funny list of the 24 types of libertarians.

But I haven’t shared anything making fun of people like me since this “think I do” montage last year.

Thanks to Buzzfeed, however, we now have something new for our collection. They came up with “23 Libertarian Problems” and here are two of my favorites from the list.

I think that libertarianism doesn’t work as a political party.

The reason for that is obvious, the contradiction of trying to combine conservative economics with a left wing social agenda in the open where people can actually see it, does not win many voters.

The only way that libertarianism can prevail, is to either corrupt the democrat party on economics, or corrupt the GOP on social issues and Christianity and traditional Americanism.

Exactly right.

FR 364 days out of the year: "You libertarians make me want to puke. You are all smelly, dope smoking, light in the loafers peaceniks, Get out of our God-fearing website, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way."

FR on the day after election day: "Hey, how come all you libertarians didn't vote for our guy??"

We can’t win if we surrender social issues, because the economics flows from them.

So go ahead and double down on those social issues - I have no objection to that. This libertarian will be interested to see how well that works for you.

There’s no such thing as “conservative economics”. Now, if you were to fuse libertarian economics with traditionalism, you might have something. Seems like there was a guy you claim to admire who said something about that kind of thing in a speech. I’m sure he didn’t really mean it, it was early, he didn’t say it enough times, and other dishonest evasions.

even here at FR the libertarians are pretty obsessed with it

Really???

There are and have been some posters here who have almost never posted about anything other than homosexuality.

Taxes? No. Deficits? No. Welfare? No. Corruption? No. It's just homos, homos, homos, all week long.

I feel safe in saying that none of those posters are libertarians.

Not much choice there. What’s working isn’t working. Sliding over to the other side isn’t going to help anything.

Sure there are, that is why there are not endless threads of conservative versus libertarian economics at freerepublic, instead there is only you guys pushing your lefty social politics here.

LOL, actually the libertarians are heavy on defending the homosexual agenda at FR, even this thread has it’s share of veiled pro-homo posters.

What do you think makes all you guys hate social conservatism so much, because we agree on homosexual issues?

For a guy implying that he opposes the libertarian view on social issues and supports the social conservative positions and politics, you sure spend a lot of time arguing with the social conservatives.

It is part of the libertarian game in a war to defeat conservatism.

Thread after thread, after thread, of the same old thing.

Rather than spending your time arguing with me who might not be a libertarian why don’t you spend your time trying to convince that 21% of the conservative core constituency who voted for the homosexual agenda, illegal immigration, abortion, and Obamacare that they need to actually vote conservative next time around.

That is a typical liber post, veiled, but expressing a social liberal/anti-conservative agenda.

Trying to move FR left, while keeping your head above water.

Hard to believe that you despise the most anti-Obama voting group in America.

The closest thing that we come to for an anti-liberal voting block, and like a 6 year old child you want to know ‘but daddy, why doesn’t 27% of the electorate vote 100% the same instead of only 79%???, huh daddy?’

I would work with Libertarians if they would agree to focus on fiscal conservatism. Starve the beast. Force government to be small.

Sold. Intelligent libertarian-leaning people understand you have to do things "in order".

You prove my point, of course reading the thread proves that anyway.

You can’t deny that you have spent the day arguing with, disputing, challenging social conservatives on this thread.

One of the good things about freerepublic is that it is a conservative site, we are not here to debate liberal positions on social issues.

The reason libertarian threads are so strange, is that the libertarians have liberal positions that they want to push, but they have to soft pedal them and play games, so a thread that could be short, simple, and tight, can go on for days as the libers fight to promote what they won’t admit they are promoting, or even “personally” support.

All the wiliness, and lying, and evasion, yet attacking, makes for the creepiest posters we have.

I think we all know what libertarian social goals follow in your "order", as veiled as your post is.
